Hmm, interesting results. I guess I'll give it another 24 hours or so before I post what clip is what pedal. I am pretty surprised that no one dug clip 9, its personally one of my favourites! Oh well, there's no accounting for taste!

A bass overdrive experiment - BBBOD content!

I will publish the whole list later once people have had a chance to listen and guess at which pedal is which (or at least express their preference!).

It's not that I'm desperate or anything, I was just wondering what pedals were being used on tracks no.2 and 8. if I have the guessing game, I would assume that track no.2 is the FEA labs dual band distortion. I couldn't quite put my finger on no.8. I wanted to say the fuzzoricious dark driving but I don't think that's it. like I've mentioned before, track no.8 sounds like the isolated bass tracks to metallica's master of puppets. it definitely reminds me of the isolated bass track to the thing that should not be.
Okay, so I think everyone who was keen to try the experiment has had an opportunity to do so. So, here are the pedals that made each of the clips:
Clip 1: Fuzzrocious Dark Driving
Clip 2: FEA Dual Band Distortion - this was run on full range with both the high and low bands distorting.
Clip 3: SFX Micro-RD - this was run in a "low gain" mode with just a touch of break up (gain at 11 o'clock).
Clip 4: SFX Micro-BD - this was run in a "high gain" mode with the gain set about 3 oclock.
Clip 5: BJFE BBBOD - this was run "low gain" with the gain about 11 oclock
Clip 6: SFX Micro-RD - this was run in "high gain" mode with the gain set at maximum
Clip 7: Darkglass Electronics Harmonic Booster - this was a little unfair as the pedal is not an overdrive or distortion pedal but a boost pedal. In order to get break up in the pedal (and not at the input of the saffire) I had to cut the bass and treble and it shows in the midrangy tone. This pedal sounds wonderful clean.
Clip 8: SFX Micro-BD - this was run with gain at minimum
Clip 9: FEA Dual Band - this was run with the high end distortion circuit bypassed (ie distortion on the low end only).
Clip 10: BJFE Blueberry - this was run at high gain with the gain set at maximum.

Well, dammit. This just makes me want to try that FEA Dual Band Distortion that much more. Also, going back and listening to them all again, the cranked Blueberry sounds really good too, even though it's not particularly my bag.
This thread only increases the BBBODs value. A couple of owners PMd me and had picked the tone straight away!HA!!! I told you I need to try a BJFE Blueberry! #5 and #10 were my favorites!

FWIW I couldn't tell $250 - 300 difference between clip 1 and clip 10. I think the major difference is the low end retention on the BBBOD is slightly clearer and slightly less dark.
I was way off on all my guesses. Interesting.
Well I didn't pick it on the vote, but day 3 and I'm still very happy I picked the DD in real life.
And I still want a BBOD

huh..I was really the only one that voted for #1. I'm really surprised how close the fuzzrocious is to the BBBOD. Those were the two that I preferred (blindly). It's really too bad the fuzzrocious controls are internal.
Yeah, I think the Fuzzrocious is really close to the BBBOD. One thing that's really apparent on the Fuzzrocious is the dramatic change from "no clipping" to "clipping" because of the leds used. You can hear it in the clip when some of the more softly played notes (particuarly in the second riff) don't trigger the clipping.
