A choice between a mellow nickel roundwound or a bright flatwound string set.

All the bassists you are naming are using flats. I have had a 50's Precision in the past and you cannot go wrong with flats or rounds on that bass. Both will work fine.

Personally, I would strung that bass with Chromes or Fender Flats 9050 ML.

I've used Chromes and Fender flats. Chromes a little brighter. Fender's tension was just too much. Prefer Chromes.
