Sadly, as is very often the case in cyber-land, the conclusion is wrong. Anthony definitely did slap on this track at the request of the Producer. AJ and I have discussed this personally on several occasions at the shop and I just called him again to confirm it.

FWIW, I am a huge fan of AJ's work with Chaka...

Around 3:50 Anthony takes off on the lower register... This is when Chaka did her first solo album. I think this album came out in 78.

Yeah, I was always surprised Gamble and Huff parted with the writers credit on that, they were notoriously squirrelly with the money with their artist.

One of my favorite tracks from the Al Di Meola days off of the 1980 album Splendido Hotel, Al Di's Dream Theme, features a quick slap line that transitions the piece with absolute perfection.
