A common (pointless) theme here

How about this? In the early 70's, I was stationed close enough to my parent's house to go home every weekend, and had my huge stereo system set up in the basement, 'cause there wasn't room for it in the barracks (had a roomie, and his was there first).
Got to my folks' house late one Friday afternoon; went in, and felt the whole floor vibrating like crazy. Aha, I thought; that's my kid brother messin' with my stereo - and after I threatened to destroy him if he did, too.
Fought my way down through the decibels pouring up the stairs; rounded the corner, and found - my father! Mr. Retired E-9, Crewcut, "I think light opera is the best music" Straight Arrow, is rockin' out hard in the middle of the room, jammin' to CCR's "Run Through the Jungle" on his Air Guitar! And, he was pretty good at it, too. "These guys are great!" he shouted when he finally noticed me; "Got any more of their records?" I was too stunned to do anything but nod. What I thought I knew about my parents took a serious hit that day.:rollno:

For a story with more punch, and a better reference to a Cheap Trick hit, I would suggest you change the story to ending with "rock and rollin' got my KISS records out."

When I was kid I would get up and my mother and I would listen to the body count on the radio, it was Viet nam time.

Then the station would play Marrakesh Express. I doubt she ever had any idea what that song was about.

It is a beautiful song.

Remember, music is a business, and our art is just another commodity to be bought and sold for a profit. That's why so much attention is given to some and not others. If you sold used cars, would you try harder to sell the one that had a bigger commission, or the one you would own? Look at these singing shows like American Idol. Who wins that? The A+R guy who doesn't have to hang out in dives searching for real talent, that's who! Back in the early '70's when FM radio was able and willing to transmit real music to us, it was about sharing it, not making a buck off of it. It was a different world back then. Youtube is great if you're on a quest for musical excellence.

It's not a story- true fact. I'm not sure Kiss had been invented yet (this was in early 1974); never liked them in any case.:D And, what Cheap Trick Hit??
