Double Bass a composer asks about a double-stop

If it is a double bass part in an orchestra, I would suggest to divide it between two basses or two groups of the bass section.

And take it up an octave.

MTJ has it right. Just make sure the player has enough time to reposition himself before and after. Some bassists will resist thumbing that low on principle, however. Make sure you find someone who has already played Henze, Xenakis, Hauta-aho, etc.
