I think you may be on to something… that there explains in part the difference between the two models, although the funk is all about booty moving.

Now, here’s a thought…Beck playing country. While he obviously was a rockabilly freak, which is a laterally related style, and would always sneak a quote from the “Beverly Hillbillies” theme into the middle of “Jeff’s Boogie” whenever he’d play it, this next clip is the only time he approached the genre…


Tal was only about 2 years old when this was filmed.

one of the things I love most about this forvm: this cut is so deep you just decapitated me, I am so impressed that you posted this. who knew Jeff Beck played in this scene in Twins. holy cow lmao. kudos to you good sir. wow.

also he's still doing like a fusion thing lol.

Well, A)I’ve been a fan since 1966, and as it turns out, he is something of a surrogate bass inspiration. Huh? I started listening to “Top 40” radio finally in the summer of that year, having ignored for the most part all the post-Beatle hubbub. I was too young to care when they first hit, it seemed like they were just the fad of the month, and if I listened to music at all, it was the dying embers of the folk explosion or jazz late at night on some radio station my mother listened to. Oddly enough, the Byrds kinda caught my ear the next year. Not to be left behind by the kids at school, I finally got with the program. The Yardbirds’ “Over Under Sideways Down” was happening at the time, I had taken(and failed miserably to grasp)folk guitar at summer camp, but, while I really hadn’t discerned what a bass was, I figured out the single note stock boogie-woogie bassline, similar to “Rock Around The Clock”, used in the song. That set me on my way. Eventually I come to find out that it was Beck, not Paul Samwell-Smith, who played it, later overdubbing his lead guitar.

Then, B)…I saw the movie when it came out(aside from having seen him live a number of times at that point). Got to talk to him briefly backstage once, years later.

absolutely love the yardbirds, Keith Relf is my spirit animal, so friggin cool. I can't believe you met Beck! cheers!
