What caught my attention is the comments from people who say the DR250 doesn't necessarily need a sub cab.

Depends on the tone you're looking for. If it's a typical 4x10 style of bass extension DR250 is OK alone, or use two for 8x10 levels. If it's 2x18 with a 4x10 on top then you'd want to mate it with a T39 sub.

The DR250 doesn't have 10" speaker qualities, I was referring to the bass extension. Being fully horn loaded it does not sound like any commercial cabinet. I use a DR250 for all but the largest gigs, with a T39 below for those.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought i'd ask this question here as it involves both the Eminence Delta 12lf and their Alpha 8mr.
A few months ago, I built a 2x12 cab with delta 12lf's. Approx. 170 litres tuned to about 46Hz (I really cant remember the exact specs but it was around that) It sounds and looks great, but its MOOHASIVE - need an estate car to move it in really. So I want to cut it in half basically (so at smaller gigs and practice I can use a single cab and at bigger gigs I can use them together) and I was wanting to add a bit more in the way of mid/high frequencies and the easy way of doing that seems to be adding the Alpha 8mr.

My question is, the Delta is rated 500 watts and the Alpha is125 watts, if I wire them together and play them through a 600-800 watt amp each speaker gets an equal amount of power (300-400 watts each, if they are both of the same ohmage) so is there anything I can do to stop the alpha getting too much power or will it be fine as is or do I have any other relativley easy options at my disposal?

I would use a crossover at about 800 Hz with those two drivers in a vented box. The Alpha 8 MR will handle the high part of that signal up to uncomfortable levels, and the Delta 12 LF will do a fine job with the frequencies up to that point.

I noticed a simulation someone else came up with comparing the DeltaLite II 12" to the Delta 12LF. The DeltaLite seemed to come very close to the performance of the heavier Delta 12LF, and did so in a similiar sized box. I remember thinking at the time that I would normally want to spend an extra $20 and save the weight difference. This might be worth considering if you haven't purchased your drivers yet.

I already have the Delta 12lf's so I will be using them.

It says in the description it only has a power handling of 400 watts and i'll be using over 600 will it work OK?

I have seen from my WinIsd mock ups with both of these speakers that the DeltaLite II is more mid pronounced and much more sensitive (efficient). The Delta 12LF has a more extended low end response, good for a 2-way cab as a woofer. It seems Aguilar uses something very close to the Delta 12lf in their GS112 and although it has a nice smooth tone it also gets a lot of comments for being mid scooped and hard to cut through the mix with.

Man, have you changed your tune since I was going to build your cabs. You told me that a T24 and a DR200 was as good as an 810, and if I wanted more, I must be playing in stadiums. That is almost a direct quote from you Bill. Had you told me that I needed your bigger cabs, I would have built them, and wouldn't feel so damn bitter about wasting my whole summer, and alot of cash, buying a bunch of your cab designs, of which I have deleted all from my computer I was so pi88ed about what I got for results from the pipp squeek sound I got from what I built. Funny how now it's different.
