A glimpse into how much semi-big full time bands make?

You want to make money in music? Don't get into money less genres. I love metal, and punk, but there's no real money there. I play blues, country, and classic rock for a reason...

And while I am not trying to score with groupies, I know I am a weirdo, I actually really dig my wife, but by the same token, Metal shows tend to be one big sausage fest. It's nice to see ladies dancing to your music, not just a bunch of sweaty dudes...

I think that this band is horrible and I'm a huge fan of extreme metal. Alot of these modern bands, all theyre doing is playing breakdown after breakdown. No talent or originality. Sucks that even by conforming to a very commercial heavy sound won't get you financial success.

And certainly not to offend anyone here, but I consider metal is a fairly musician-heavy genre. Most of the listeners are themselves musicians. Which means, among other things, they spend more on their gear than music. Nothing wrong with that, as far as I'm concerned. But you can't make any money if no one pays for your music.

+1 on this. if you want to make money as a musician, you have to play what pays. In my region, that means oldies and gospel.

It wasn't just Jerry, the whole band worked day jobs. Heck Danzig still worked in a steel mill into the 90's, though all the guys did say that was part of how they stayed in shape. Doyle even through the new Misfits worked with bodybuilders to help make ends meet. Horror Punk is my favorite music in the whole world, but there are only a handful of people that care about the genre so I know I will never make one dime doing it. But the lack of money frees you up to create art which I was much more interested in anyways.

i lived down the street from glenn danzig for years in the '90s, but it was the mid '90s through the mid 2000s, and he didn't seem to be going to a normal job.

were you into 45 grave and penis flytrap?

I was in the room in 1970 when Vanilla Fudge got their pay. $4,000 in cash. They split that four ways! They were breaking up because they were exhausted, but still doing 7 shows a week and living out of a suitcase and in a plane. Tough work. I don't think any of them toured more than a few years after that. They had some serious money back then to live off of.

Carmine Appice (drummer) worked for Rod Stewart for decades after that. Before that was Cactus, and Beck, Bogert, and Appice with Jeff Beck. Tim Bogert (bassist) is also still in the business and touring.

FWIW, $4,000 in 1970 is roughly $24,000 today, which is either good or bad for them depending on the gig and the venue.

45 grave I heard and like the music (female vocalist just don't do it for me for the most part), penis flytrap I have never heard so I will have to at least give it a listen. I missed the hay day of this music, The Misfits were long gone before I was born. But I enjoyed the history of the cast of people that had dealings with Danzig and the brothers Caiafa. Bobby Steele has quite the sorted history too. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Danzig had spouted off about still working a day job for the poor me effect during the rise of the new Misfits, he has always seemed very wounded about the whole thing. Which seems odd considering the band would break up over a member getting a hamburger when they clearly ordered a cheeseburger. But all good things must come to an end and it opened the door for Samhain and the coolness that is Eerie Von.

I guess I'm so old that I think that singers should actually, you know, sing.
For the record, I think this band sucks.

But people who say "that isn't real singing" should really try it sometime. To be able to perform with any kind of worthwhile and consistent tone and volume, while matching rhythms and melodies (even if doing so a-melodically), and make it to the end of a song - let alone a whole set -- let alone a set a night, night after night - without doing irreparable damage to your vocal cords, requires all the same technique, skill, talent, practice, and dedication as "real" singing - if not moreso, in some ways.

Some things to remember:

-Most people can't live off their art

-Being an artist that does not live solely off of their art does NOT make you some sort of 'failure'. It's just the reality of the situation. There is no shame in holding down a regular job as well as practicing your artform. It doesn't mean you aren't talented, driven, focused etc. It mostly just means you aren't as lucky or as well-networked as others.

-Yes, it sucks so very much that you don't get to just 'follow your passion' and find monetary success like the motivational posters tell you to. Welcome to being a grown up. Your dreams don't have to end, they just need a little modification to fit into the real world. It will be okay.
But why is that?

Why do we just accept that as the facts of life?

In many European countries, especially Scandinavian countries, artists who can prove they are working are given a stipend from the government for living expenses, not to mention the numerous public grants available to them that can be used to finance their work.

And that's on top of a significantly higher average pay rate from venues for live gigs.

If you say so. But I tried to listen to the videos and I failed to hear anything that could be misconstrued as any semblance of talent or musical skill on the part of the band. Screaming, growling, grunting isn't singing. And the best way to hide the fact that none of the guitarist or bass player have any talent is to turn it up, tune down, and add enough distortion that nobody really knows what you're playing. That's worked for years and probably will continues to do so in the future.

Still trying to decide if the name of lowselfesteemcoremetal or douchemetal best describes it. Kind of a toss up with one being much easier to spell.

This is America, we only like to give money to people who are rich enough that they don't need it.

I am 100% absolutely in favor of revamping the current financial system in favor of a Basic Income system, absolutely. But that's not in place right now, and it probably won't be until we really see (larger) droves of people being displaced by AI. So in the meantime, got to figure out what works with the world the way it is.

Again, I suggest you try doing it before you decide whether or not it requires any talent or skill.

Here:

Holy War Tab by Thy Art Is Murder | Songsterr Tabs with Rhythm

THY ART IS MURDER LYRICS - Holy War

And again, to be clear, I think this band sucks, and agree with you that bands like this exemplify what's wrong with modern music.

I will drink to that, my friend.

I just had some of the bourbon barrel-aged Arrogant Bastard. So tasty.

For me, 'musical skill' is measured by the musician's ability to effectively translate their emotions into sound. In that sense, I would say a lot of these vocalists who do 'growling', 'grunting', etc, are very talented in their own way... not including the guy in the OP IMHO.
Here are some examples.
