A good cheap stingray clone?

I've got a TBC on the way that is supposed to be very MM-ish
I'll let you know when it gets here on Tuesday

My ATK300 is more Music-Manish than most MM's I have played (if that makes any sense) Really awesome instrument, it just weighs a ton and my back can't take it anymore

There is also of-course the Flea Bass - which is an attempt to make a cheaper MM when it all comes down to it

All of you putting Ibanez over Music Man makes me want to edit my original post. I had mentioned the local music store in my neck of the woods carrying an SUB. While it's genuinely a Music Man, I walked out of the store with an Ibanez SRX. It's dual pickup in a Music Man fashion but I'd put the ATK over the SRX for the neck thickness and feel of the MM. I'd like to know what Ibanez has been doing recently, at one point in time you couldn't get me to own an Ibanez bass. Within the past year, I've purchased two of them.

Tobias? That's a great suggestion. There's the MTD Kingston Artist, also Tobias Growler bass. Single quad-coil Bartolini passive p/u and depending on the year, 2 or 3 band equalizer. Their price range varies on eBay but I've seen some older Growlers on there pretty cheap (around $5-600 or so). I owned a Growler 5, sold it for a car recently. Gibson made- decent tone but low resale value, or a steal for the used market. My old Growler ended around $300 on eBay, being the instrument had seen better days.

thanks for all the great input so far, as of right now im leaning to the olp, but the ibanez atk fans are also making a strong case. as for whoever it was that said i need to save up for the real thing(sorry i dont remember your name at the moment) i would totally agree with u except that i will be turning 20 in august and i really need to get out of my parents basement, because of that i really need to watch what i spend.

now the atk has a 3 band eq, witch i like, how hard would it be to put something similar in an olp? and how much would it cost to do it myself?

There was a recent thread posted about a SX ray 5 someone just got. I, too, just scored one here on TB and it is in transit as we speak (or write, if you will). I think that would be another option if you can find one. They were only made for a short time, and don't come up that often.

your best bets are definatly either a MM sub/SBMM ray34 or ibanez ATK. don't know why people are suggesting OLP, be it they are passive and from what i hear sound nothing like an actual stingray, and you said you were looking for something with an actual stingray like tone.
