Do u guys have any suggestion for a good head + cab i can get like around 400-500 (USD), I'm just a new bassist (probably a few mont) but i'm gonna have a gig at my school so i need a big amp. My current amp is a 15 watt and so its pretty suckish. Any idea for a head cab worth 400-500ish. I've already look at Ashdown and Behringer (i live in indonesia btw so not so many brands)

A Good Head Cab that i can get for about400$

If you're looking for both a head and a cab for <$500, you're gonna have a really hard time. With that kind of price range, unless I'm mistaken, you're probably better off getting a combo amp. You might get lucky and find some good stuff used. How big of a gig are you playing? If you're just starting out, you probably don't need to go buy a huge 400+ W rig. Something closer to 200-300W would be more reasonable, and easier to find at a lower price. I would look into Ampeg and Markbass combo amps, though they can get just as pricey.
I have an Ampeg BA115 100W combo amp, and I felt it was a good deal for $300. I play in a loud ass hardcore band, and I've always managed to (barely) keep up, even at larger gigs. I would recommend used Peavey gear for you. You could easily score some decent gig worthy gear in your price range. Mark 3 or 6 and any TVX cab used on the cheap
You might want to check out the "new" Acoustic B200H head with the Acoustic B410 (4 x10 cabinet). A while back I was looking at small practice amps and tried their "small practice amp", sorry forgot the Acoustic model #, it was like 20 W or something, I was not impressed, only thought it was sort of neat that "Acoustic" might be back. Somebody bought a big name from back-in-the-day and proceeds to put out a cute little practice amp...go figure, right? Anyways yesterday, while trying out an Ampeg BA115HP, which I was just about sold on, I noticed some "just in" Bigger Acoustic stuff at my local GC (Acoustic B200H Head and B410 Cab). Admittedly, as always, I was very skeptical, thinking someones really trying to sell a name now. All I can say is, I tried it out and personally, it freakin like scary blew me away!!! I know that's where I'm headed after I send them an e-mail to see how responsive they are...you see I'm still skeptical although I know what I heard with my own two ears and freakin loved it. FYI, You can get the Acoustic head and the cab I mentioned for just about the same price as the Ampeg BA115HP (still a pretty good amp). Seriously, you owe it to yourself to at least check it out.

If you are just looking for a Head, you could get a Peavey Tour 450, they sell for $450 Free Shipping / No TAX & brand new! lots of functions and knobs! i have a peavey amp, and peavey is the way to go for broken musicians and students! Best Deal / Power For your money plus an Excellent Tone...Lots of Bass!

Slighly used might be your aim. GK 700rb-II or 800rb, cabs are tough to purchase used, they might have problems such as rattling that only shows up if you test the cabs with a very loud volume. --Kent

Honestly... those are both brands I've had bad experiences with.
Myself, and people I know, have had Ashdown amps and Hartke cabs blow on them (not using them irresponsibly... at least, I wasn't... they might've been...).
Once again... go used. At that price range, it's really your best option.
Between the two... Ashdown would probably be a bit better for your money.

cruise craigslists and TB classifieds and engage in the fine art of haggling.
The Peavey mark IV comes instantly to mind. Get a couple of 1x15's or a couple of 2x10's and you are set for lots of different gigs.
You'll probaly have $ left for dinner for your mom. Mothers day is coming up soon. Surprise her. Think of Mom. It'll pay off ;-)

Well, if you ask me, i'd go with Carvin! BR615 Combo Amp, the only downside is that u can't try one of those before you buy.
Also it is a combo, Not a head + Cab but this way is cheaper and more portable.
If i really had to choose between Hartke and Ashdown...I'd Choose Ashdown all the way, get a used MAG 300H and a B212 Neo Avatar Cab and you are set.

I have the GK Backline 600 (300 watts) and it's actually very solid for the price (certainly not pro-gear, but solid). The one posted above is 125 watts and probably more than you need right now but going from 15 watts to this (with a 15" included) would be a big improvement.

Hmm so Ashdown VS Hartke is Ashdown better???? I'll try out an ashdown, Although i already fell in love with the Hartke's tone ^^ but migth change if ashdown's better. I'll try it out
I've had nothin but good experiences w/ Hartke. & so have MY friends-over the last 15 yrs!!! They'er goin @ good prices too. Ashdown have a nice warm tone tho!
I've never had any trouble with my Hartke-gear ... okay, there is better gear, but not for that price bracket. If you go for a Hartke cabinet, try to find gear from the XL-line and not the VX (VX is much cheaper, but the XL's are waaaaayyyy better). But go used ...
i heard that that the hartke head the 3500a has a 350w @ 4 ohms and 250watt @ 8 ohms soo the cab is 400 watt @ 8ohms... its ok right??? yeah i plan 2 get the xl 410 because its with alumunium cone and can increase the slap n pop powers
