I would also check out ESP basses,along with ibanez and bc rich they cater towards the metal crowd

WARWICK. The Rockbass series are more affordable and has a good tone for metal. Otherwise Ibanez basses are promising.

My favorites: Spector Euro & Rebop, ESP Vintage 4 (wish they would come out with a 5-string), Fender Precision, Rickenbacker 4003, and Warwick Thumb.

As bass player that has survived from 3 previous bands, I would have to say it really it depends on the style of metal you are trying to play.

Granted there are many many choices out there, in my experience Ibanez makes quality basses for not that much cash. They record well and gig well
