A little advice?

I've been doing some research, and doesn't the Short term memory loss associated with Marijuana only take effect when intoxicated?

Nope. It can linger, or it can last the rest of your life and it's not just short-term memory that can be affected.

You have to realize that most of what we ingest isn't meant to go in our bodies. If something makes you feel strange, hyper, super relaxed, paranoid, completely worry-free, overly sleepy or alert/awake or in any way that's different from the way we feel when we eat well, drink enough water and get enough quality sleep, it's a foreign substance. Altering brain chemistry in someone who's still developing is dangerous. One of my friends has really bad long-term memory and it can be a problem, since he's an electrical engineer. He remembers details and concepts that relate to a lot of different topics, but events from the past aren't easy for him to access on cue. He says that another friend and I are his memory because of this. He came to the conclusion that he had smoked enough pot by the time he graduated from high school.

Why do you feel you should try alternative methods before seeing your doctor? While I'm not nocking non-western medicine or herbal supplements the memory issues you mention sound serious and while they might be related to any increased use weed, they could be due to something else altogether. See your doc discuss your concerns and get his opinion about the alternative supliments you are considering taking.

Doctors are expensive. I figure giving it a week or two to improve before seeing a doc wouldnt hurt too bad.

Given that the doc will most likely ask you right away how much weed you smoke, this is not an unreasonable plan... assuming you knock off the weed meanwhile.

The weed is gone. I quit cold turkey after saturday, and i'm going to abstain for a month. I don't know if I'll go back to it or not, I will make that decision when I am thinking more clearly in a month.

Good choice and good luck.

In the meantime, have your GF come over and ask you for sex once per hour...even if you've just finished having it. It's all part of your recovery. Really.

Because you'll go see a doctor, they'll charge you $70 (or whatever they charge in the US), and they'll tell you "Hmm, try smoking less weed, sleeping more, altering your diet to eat more healthy and take some of the following vitamin supplements to help improve your concentration. If you're still having problems in a month come see me again."

Maybe they'll have some better advice than you find on internet forums, but I quite seriously doubt it when it's your first appointment and there are some obvious lifestyle/diet changes that will help alleviate any problems. Unfortunately GP's rarely take anything seriously the first time you rock up for an appointment is because they're used to dealing with a bunch of numpties who show up at the first signs of a runny nose or stomach ache that they're sure is going to kill them.

Also, chances are he'd need to spend a thousand dollars on CAT scans and an MRI before the doctor could do anything further anyway, so it makes sense to try to simple stuff first.

WHAT?!!

Drugs are bad. The Drug War is worse. Simple. What kind of moron would say medicine is bad??

Btw I'm asthmatic and my wife is diabetic.

You just did? In almost the same sentence. But yeah, I'm gonna assume you made a typo in the original statement..

Also, drink lots of water every day to clear out your system. Like 10 8oz cups everyday for a week, at least. Also, stop drinking soda, booze, energy drinks and such.

Just as important, make sure you get around 7 hours of good solid sleep every night and keep a regular sleep schedule.

The water will help a lot when you start responding to your GF's requests for sex. ;)

Good luck. Keep us informed. :)

This is another major reason i'm not seeing the doc yet.

Done, done, and done. Thank you for your help Stumbo, and everyone else. I'll keep you guys informed. I'm doing a little better so far. My lungs are starting to cough up some of the **** stuck in there from my smoking. I don't think my thoughts are getting better yet, but my speech has improved slightly. I also forgot to mention that another thing that has been plaguing me alongside the spacing out and memory loss is that I more often have trouble speaking. Either my sentences will make no sense, go nowhere, or I'll slur some words. This started around the same time. But anyways, that aspect of things is getting a little better.

Now THAT'S a problem. I'm no Dr. but that sounds like a neurological(brain) problem. For me, I'd get to the doc as soon as possible, probably the ER. Slurred speech can be the result of a stroke, seizure or a bunch of other very serious stuff. :hyper::eek::hyper::eek::hyper::eek:

I don't think I have seizures, if I was having one of the seizures listed above I wouldn't be able to do most of the things I do when I'm not paying attention...Watching TV, Playing Xbox, checking talkbass, etc.

They can last not even seconds, just little spaces. You wouldn't notice it if you weren't looking for it. You just continue on each side without realizing the little gap.
