Looking for a bass to go along with my Corvette. I am down to three choices. An AMSE P-bass, a Musicman Stingray, or a Carvin LB70 with the optional MM pickup. I have owned both a P and a Stringray, never played a Carvin but have been reading their catalogs since the late '80's. Any help would be nice. I play classic rock.

A P bass might be more "authentic" for classic rock, but a Stingray won't be a bad choice at all. I don't know anything about Carvin basses, really.

well, if your vette is an active one, i would go for the p bass. there is noyhing like the pure passive deep tone of a fender p. of course im a fender and wick guy, but they are all good choices. if the vette is active, you can coax some rayish type tones out of it(i can with my thumb bass), so.....

How about a Vintage RI Precision (57 with maple fretboard, 62 with rosewood)? Maybe it's different in the States, but here in the UK the StingRay's more expensive than an American Series Fender, whereas the Vintage is about the same - and in my experience better quality.
You're going to have people voting for both, and no real progress made in the way of a poll. The best thing to do is go play both basses, get familar with both, then make your decision.
Also, Buy used! You'll save money in the first place, but should you come to dislike your initial choice, you can resell without much loss as you would had you bought new.
