A math question

I am reading a Sci Fi novel named "A Star Curiously Singing." In that novel an android said A ~ A3. In the context of the story A probably = Allah. Does anyone know what this means? I have looked up the symbol and not found any answers.
I tried to type the symbol for A to the third power but I couldn't figure out how to do that on my Mac keyboard.

A^3 is generally understood as "A" cubed. That squiggly line (~) means about, or approximately. Other than that I have no idea, I would interpret A~A^3 to mean A = 1. Which would be right on with your interpretation. Changing the equation to G~G^3 might work for many others too. Man this needs to be in the lobby. Skating awful close to the line.

I do apologize if anyone is bothered with the subject.
The interpretation you suggest would not make sense in the context of the story. PM if you want more info on that , or as you suggest we could talk in the lobby.

The author is Kerry Nietz and he also wrote "Amish Vampires in Space." How could that not be a good book?:D

I just got a copy of the book. He's in the left and just got punished by the husband. But my Nook just died, gotta get it charged. Now I'm railed. This is why I prefer paper, it doesn't need charging.

Amish Veampires in Space? Perhaps you should un-retire...

The squiggle line means "approximately equal to".

Regarding A3, the 3 is a subscript -- not a superscript. As such, it means the 3rd element is the set of A{}.

Note: CS people would say that it represents the 4th element, but mathematicians start subscripts at 1 -- not 0.
