A new decent combo.

Hi bassists! I'm trying to make my rig at least decent... I have a Laney LX10B, but I'm not happy with it, these are the problems:
  • The PreAmp EQs are almost unusable
  • Inexistent basses
  • Low power
I like playing classic Heavy/trash Metal, like Metallica and Pantera but even some "new" things, like Tool or Soen. I'd like to remain in a combo amp: I have small places. I considered two combos:
  1. The Orange Crush Bass 50
  2. Marshall MB60
What could be best for me? Thanks!

If you are set on a combo and might use it on stage, look for a DI and an extension speaker cab option. DI will let the sound guy plug you into the PA so the crowd can hear you and the ext cab option means you can add drivers if your combo doesnt move enough air by itself.

As for tone? We all have different tone wants and needs. You can narrow down the advice from people here by telling us what amps sound good to you. Check your local music stores and try a bunch out.

That's really helpful! Thanks. What about these strange hybrid combos?

I mean Tube preamp but solid state final.

I would guess you would like the tone of some and not others. Like any other amp. Back to my comment about trying a bunch to see what sound you DO like. Asking about random brands here is going to result in people who like that brand's tone saying yes. That isnt going to be much help finding what YOU like.

However if you say "I love XXXXX's tone, what brands offer combo amps that sound similar in my price range?" You'll get a lot of people who have played them and can offer insight.

Not sure what your budget is, but if you want big sound I'd recommend dropping the combo and getting something like a mesa Subway 800 and the matching 115 or 112. Certainly not cheap, but I have the 800+ with the 112 and 115 and it is most certainly able to keep up with a drummer and weighs very little

I like this idea, but is over budget. I forgot to mention the budget, I'd to go not over 800€

How about the Ampeg RB112?
I own this amp. It gets pretty loud for a 100 watt with a single 12 speaker. It will cover bedroom practice and can do the job when you want to jam with other people as long as the guitar player isn't playing with a half stack and cranking. You might want to consider a fender rumble also, a lot of bang for the buck.
