on the P Pickup

I think it would be more helpful for the buyer

What I find interesting is that each coil appears to have been positioned to sense 3 strings. Obviously the concept behind how a split-p pickup works eludes the builder. One of the (obvious) problems with this one is that either the neck or bridge would have to be repositioned in order to get the strings equidistant from the fingerboard edges. But either way the G string would suffer and may end up too far out of the magnet field to be amplified as strongly as the other strings.

Shame... it's a nice looking bass. But it's clear from the photos that it's not right.
I imagine when you try and fret the E string at maybe the A or B, it just drops right off the back of the fretboard.

I was thinking it was named that because it looks like there's a split in the wood the length of the bass on the back about 3/4's of the way up toward the upper bout. Kind of hard to tell if it's an actual split or just an irregularity in the wood though.

... the bonding of the woods and the fact that there aren't any gaps (from what I can see in the picture below) shows that Tom does have some skill as a woodworker...

The 2nd-to-last fret space looks smaller than the last (bottom) one but maybe it's an optical illusion due to the fret dots. It also looks like the B-string bridge is closer to the fretboard than the others but maybe that's the camera angle.

I think it's more that the E-string bridge is mounted at an angle. Won't affect things too greatly.

I'm inclined to say that 10 and 11 look a bit off as well, but I can't say for sure based solely on the pics.

As I've said before, I don't believe it would be fair of me to pass judgement of the fret work based soley on a pic that is not dead on front and that has such a glare. With that said, they do seem to be highly polished. I'll give a complete review of the bass when I have it in hand. If someone can help me out a bit, I will post sound clips. I've only recorded to home computer once and it was at a guitarists house who now lives a few hours away. I'm not sure what I'll need beyond software. Any suggestions for my broke ass?
