Huh?
This is a commonly held view, but I can think of at least 7 or eight very distinct tones I get by varying my technique alone. Frankly, I'd rather do it that way than by twiddling lots of knobs. A lot of people assume the 'one trick pony' mantra is real, and it most definitely is not.
Whatever....make mine a Fender, please. Sunburst with a tort guard and rosewood board.
My P-Bass would be a Lakland USA Duck Dunn.

Those are WAY cool. Wish I could afford it. For now, I'll have to stick with my cheap USA Fenders......![]()
Yes. Or make sure they all have exactly the same finish
Which one would you keep in this horrible dictatorship?

42 or 48 tones? I would have absolutely no use for that. I'm not saying it's BAD- these things exist for a reason. But it's not for me.Meh. If your technique allows you to get 7 or 8 distinct tones out of something as one-dimensional as a P, then you could get 42 or 48 distinct tones applying the same technique to a Stingray 25th Anniversary HSS.
I have 2 white ones if that counts for anything. I'd keep my 57 RI P-bass. Its a 1982 and I've had it for almost my entire bass playing career. Its been my main player through most of this time as well.
I have a bunch of other P-basses, but if I could only grab one if a fire, it'd be this one. (After I throw all the other ones out the window in an attempt to save them)
Pics are here, however I recently took both covers off after I broke one of the LaBella James Jamersons strings. I replaced them with DR Lo-Riders and this is maybe the second time I've ever had rounds on this bass. I still haven't put the covers back on yet and probably won't until these strings die and I get a new set of flats.

, I would probably have to decide between this:Which one would you keep in this horrible dictatorship?
GE - Thats probably in the top 5 of the coolest pbasses I have ever seen. (There is no order - they just all live on the same level of awesome)
Interesting to see some nods to Lakland. No doubt that their take on the pbass is world class. The Duck has the jazz profile neck too which I would go for.
I personally know I would want ash body/maple board as a combo. Even before seeing GE's pics, I completely love the 57RI look. I have a Lake Placid blue Atkinson which I love too.
My favourite all time bass builder is the Lowend but I am yet to try the LEP. I think I know enough about the quality of their builds to go for one of these - probably as a take on the 57RI.
Fender p-bass American Standard with the Graphite Reinforced Maple neck.
Easily fits my style (or lack thereof). It actually took me 21 years and countless basses to figure this out. Had one back in the 80's (with out the Graphite Reinforced Maple neck) and sold it. Did not even realize that was the sound I was constantly searching for until last month. I just need it simple otherwise I get lost...

For Tendollarcat, I present to you "Big Booty Girl" on the right.
