A Poll - Stock Pickups vs. Replacement Pickups....

Do you keep and use the stock pickups that were in the bass when it was manufactured?

I pulled the pickup out of my 71 Musicmaster....gonna try it in one of my Strats...it pretty low resistance & I know its gonna be clean and fairly bright.

I need to refinish the crappy stripped finish on my 71 MM bass, so that's why I decided to go ahead and try the pickup in a Strat for grins...probably in the neck or middle slot.

My USA Brubaker KXB5 Custom is good. All my other basses have been upgraded with high end Pups and Pre's. To the point where my Avatar is no longer valid :-) A lot of inexpensive basses come with Pups and electronics that need to be replaced IMO.

I've replaced the pickups in 2 cheap import basses, going from stock to EMG. then again when the EMG P died after ~20 years.
The pickup in my Squier VMP5 sounds good enough for what I use it for, so I havent touched it yet.
The Nordies in my Valenti PJ5 are wonderful.

The stock pickups in my Carvin LB75 (H50N) leave a lot to be desired, or maybe its the preamp, hard to tell. the bass has a great acoustic tone, but I plug it in and its a big old meh compared to my other basses. starting to think about getting some nordies for it, maybe a pre as well.
