I think paisley looks like amoebas too and I have a Tele guitar that I want to build that's gonna be pink paisley similar in tone to my avatar.

it's funny how that works, huh? I feel the same… there should be a medium size available, I think. Something between the regular clown shoes size and the mini ones.

Sorry. The whole ugly bass bit got started, in my mind, when Ekulati typed FB instead of TB as the place he got pulled up for disrespecting someone's bass. Thought it must be posted thru a Facebook group or something.

Plus I really like blaming FB algorithms for everything I possibly can.

My Samick has gold hardware and looks trashy as. Part of it's charm, if lm honest. Cept now I need to replace the tuners. And bright shiny gold ones are gonna look ridiculous next to the corroded bridge and knobs. Probably go with black tuners and change the rest as I get round to it. A multitude of aesthetic sins you might think. But understand it will all be delicately counterbalanced by the 90s splatter paint.

i take great care making my parts axes look really good/cool/nice/whatever and then i get on TB and make fun of anyone who puts "looks" before playability/feel/balance/etc. no inconsistency, no guilt, no regrets, but maybe "aesthetics" is different from "the way the thing looks!"

looks = kid stuff!

feel = the real deal!

i like 'em to look good, but if they didn't play top-notch they'd be worthless. i know i'm not alone in that thinking.

I had a friend get mad at me when he asked me if I liked his Aprilia Futura and I replied that at least you can't see it when you're riding it.

I haven't been on FB in 5 years for this very reason.

Every instrument I own is aesthetically pleasing to me. Some (like the Diva and Mockingbird) were love at first sight, some (like the Stingray, Spalt Terminator 5, and ExFactor) grew on me, some (e.g. P and J basses, EB-0/3, Rick) were the stuff of childhood dreams and will always reside in a special place in my heart, regardless of whether I currently own them. Pickguards, tuners, nuts, knobs are all subject to how they interplay with the other visual aspects of the bass. I just put a new preamp in a relatively inexpensive "coffee table" neck-thru bass and added 5 multi-colored knobs to complete the job. I love it but it's not everyone's cuppa, fer sure!

It is the classic Fender look. I guess it is what I am used to but I would never want anything else.
If I was going non-Fender I would look at a headless bass with a skeletonised body, with soap bar and piezo pickups.
