a rack case with latches on the lids?

Hello everyone!

I need some help with a new rack case.

I have two qualifications:

1. Must be sturdy. Reinforced corners, edges, solid rivets, yada yada yada.

2. Fasteners must be on the lids. I am very very very tired of hearing the vibrations the latches on my case. I'm so fed up that sometimes it's all I hear. I want good quality fasteners you turn to latch and unlatch, not little clips like on a guitar case.

I've never understood why the latches are so ubiquitously on the cases and not the lids. They are so out of place in any listening environment, but you find them all over!

Don't care about ATA, or shock cases really. And I'm not too picky about style, but I'm looking for a case, not a bag.

Hi.

Can't really help You other than look for any case company there is around your location and order from there.

I'm a bit surprised by the "latches on the lids" requirement. I've never seen or used any pro cases which have had the latches anywhere else than in the lids. All my cases are either for pro use from 80's and 90's or home made though, so I don't necessarily know the current situation.

Perhaps the usual scenario that people with no knowledge what so ever about the application, design the goods. If that's the case ;), I'm not surprised at all.

The last rack case I had was a SKB, and I never had an issue with a rattle. I want to say the latches were spring-loaded on the hinge that bends them toward the lid, so there would have been some natural damping.

Figure out how they're rattling. If it's the latches rattling against the case and not along their hinges, you can solve it with some self-adhesive foam or the fuzzy side of self-adhesive velcro.

So we're still at a strikeout!

Just to be clear, I do take efforts to silence my latches. Foam and rubber bands does it for me. But I hate it and I want a case that works.

Deep lids are no problem. I'll take them any day.

Keep it comin' though. I'm on a mission, I know we can find something in production!

+1 to the Pearson cases.

Latches are on the lids, these surprisingly high quality cases are mucho-inexpensive and way better than they apear in the sites crappy pics. I've been toting an 85 lb amp in my shallow Pearson 4-space (that I bought used) for a couple years now and its still holding up great. They're rounded corner and countersunk hardware design ends up looking much more like a amp head case than a modern rack. The down side is they're made of thick plywood and a bit heavier than many others.

ps: I'd suggest ordering black instead of the standard gray covering.

Every quality latch that I've used has had a single (or double) function spring to keep the latch open (or closed).

Somehow it seems to me that for a cheap price people expect to have a functional, quality product. It's the same thing as with anything else really. If You want features, be prepared to pay for it.

Latches are as good an example as any. A cheap Chinese POS HD butterfly goes for 3€ and a quality one costs about 10€.

Possibly hijacking, but I wonder why I see a lot of racks that have the same edge material (wrong terms, but call one 'tongue' & the other 'groove') on both lids? I have one rack that has the opposite so the covers mate, which makes for less hassle when storing stuff at the gig as well as frequently providing a stable base to set things on.
