Glue not screws! I've had to redo a lot of headstock repairs over the years. You'd be surprised at how much metal someone can jam in such a small area.

I vaguely recall hearing about a headstock repair using screws for strength, in which the fretboard was removed before screwing and gluing so the screws were UNDER the fretboard, not THROUGH it.

Had he used dome head screws, you could have used them as a microtonal fret.

Current bid is $32. There was a point in time that I would have loved to have that bass, any bass for $32.

$32 bucks is reasonable for that mess.
Seriously though- If that scarf joint ever comes unglued on a guitar or bass- using Titebound glue and clamping will fix the separation with no screws needed.
Trust the glue. The original manufacturer did.

The guy that I bought my first bass from had one with a similar looking repair, but I think there were 4 screws like that in the fretboard. It was an old jazz bass handed down from his dad who had done the repairs and as far as I know he's still using it to gig.

So right or wrong method, it can still work I guess.

If it's $32 it would be worth picking up just to learn how to do basic setups, repairs, fret work, wiring, etc.

At least it looks like the screw were short enough to not come out on the back of the neck!

The divots on the back of the neck suggest that wasn't originally true.

It's a cheap bass with a cheap fix that makes it playable. I wouldn't spend much if anything to fix it.

I’ve seen a few les Paul’s that have screws through the back of the neck with the tips exposed on the front side of the headstock!

They're drywall screws, that did go through. They cut them off, and filled the holes with what looks like black epoxy on the back of the neck.
