A Solid $25 P Bass Pickup?

I am looking for a good value P Bass pickup for an old beater P Bass.

There seem to be a lot of $15 and below options out there from China, that I don't really trust, and $60 and above options that are a bit pricey for this project. Seems like there should be acceptable P Bass pickups at $25 or so.


Where are the P Bass pickups between $15 and $60? Am I missing something?

I put one of their "vintage P-bass" pickups in a beater bass I used to own. The pickup looked to be well-made and it sounded fine.

Check the classifieds, maybe find a used MIM or Duncan pickup.

If MIM usually means 'assembled in Mexico', where'd the components come from?

The Squier Classic Vibe pickups are $29.99 at Bass Parts Resource. They are better than the ceramic MIM pickups.

Not a bad sounding pickup, just not a great sounding pickup. I put one in a P I flipped. I had a chuckle when the guy and his friend who came to check it out commented that I "did not replace it with a cheap pickup."

My main bass is a fretless P-bass I built several years ago. I was short on money so I used a GFS PU. A few months ago a friend gave my a Duncan of some sort,he said was a great PU. I went right back to the GFS.

Get the GFS ... JMO
