On ebay, there are snipers, & there are losers. You decide which one you're going to be...

On a positive note, they come up on greedbay all the time. Keep watching- you might find a nice cheap buy-it-now in the middle of the night that you can dive on. I see them on CL a lot, too.

A Carvin B1500 (turn up the drive knob) or the big Genz Benz, whatever the model number is (I forget). The former, a true beast and IMO a modern classic, is $700 new, but you might be able to find it used for less. The latter costs more but again may be findable used.

I would take either of these before any of the amps in the original post ... but of course, mileage can and does vary. Disclosure: I own a B1500.

In my opinion this is the one. But it will be hard to find one for $600.

You mentioned that you were happy with Peavey in the past... I recommend the Tour series heads. I have a Tour 450 and I love it... they make a 700 too... might be worth a look.

Seconded, disclosure too. Loud, simple to use, sounds good 'out of the box'. Sounds good at low volumes too. I got a virtually new 'used' one off of these boards for $425, and haven't looked back.

Markbass LMII or Genz Benz Shuttle.

If you need more grindy Ampeg tone I'd go SVPPro preamp and a power amp.

I love my LMII, but an SVP preamp (either the SVP-CL or the old SVP-II) and a power amp is the only real backup for when your SVT dies.

I have and still use an Acoustic 450. the thing is pretty tough,and has enough oomph
to drive my 70's straight back 810. Makes you feel that bass thump in your chest and
your pants legs flap in the breeze. 5 band eq plus b.m.t. create plenty of tonal options.
I prefer treble at 3 o'clock, mids 7 o'clock (cut), bass 3 o'clock, eq: flat center mid cut
compleatly to start add a little high mid if needed for the room. One thing, this amp is
really clean and sterle. Dirt to be added through petals.

Eden is my choice. If you like to be able to run alot of low end or mids, go Eden. If all you care about is sounding Middy, go GK. Try both with your cab.

A third vote for Carvin B1500 : 1900 watts at less than $500 used, perfect for touring IMO. Previous owner of one, I now have two B800s so I can run 2 rigs at once. Oh, and I currently have my Thunderfunk 550-B for sale, because w/ the Carvins, I just don't need a boutique amp.
