A whole lotta love medley scale/pattern/tab by Led Zeppelin

In the live performances of Led Zeppelin's A Whole Lotta Love there's always this one part in the middle where they do a blues improv of sorts. Could someone please kindly explain to me what scale or pattern John Paul Jones uses during these parts? (I'm new to bass)

To my ear the part where they start jamming sounds like pull-offs from A to G- AG AG AG E--- then it goes to E with hits on G to D... then starts walking in A major, quite an interesting jam- leading me to believe that parts of it they had worked out over many sessions...

Yeah it is a very interesting jam- and what they do with Dazed and Confused on this album jsut goes to a WHole 'nother level as well... You really get a feel for the multitude of chops JPJ had- everything from blues,to funk to jazz... I am pretty sure this jam on WLL is all in E and A but there may be a B or D chord in there somewhere...
One thing to watch for is like on the Lemon Song he mixes up E major and E minor pretty often...

yep i agree... it's hard not to like his playing style.. does he use pentatonic or the major scale in the WLL jam?

Both I believe--- he mixes it up, some of the walks are straight A Major Pentatonic- but he throws in all kinds of passing tones as well. The E minor A minor blues scale is used on many Zep tunes as well.
