A whole new bass

my buddy came over today and we had the bright idea of turning his fretted squier into a fretless. so we got out the belt sander and ground the frets down the nothing in about 15 minutes

i guess the moral of the story is that burning rosewood smells really good

tried all kind of things...
various knifes
needlenose plyers
swiss army knife
toe nail clippers

the belt sander worked just fine. and now he's got some really groovy metallic fret marking lines

ya we just sanded them down so they're flush with the fretboard...

ate up quite a bit of the fretboard in doing so. but it worked none the less

To me it sounds like... a bad idea.

you may want to consider putting epoxy, poly, or some other kind of lacquer on there. metal strings will wear wood way faster than metal, causing your board to become uneven, very buzzy.

I destroyed a 70s P neck this way. On the bright side(for me- not judging ), I don't smoke pot anymore.
