My Rob Allen Deep 4 is an amazing instrument. Sounds very uprighty. I have it strung with high action, and using the Rotosound RS-88 bottom four of the 5-string set (.75 - .135). I got it mainly as a jazz bass and it sounds wonderful. ROb also copied my '70s P bass neck, so it's nice and thick.
I owned a Turner Renaissance before it, and while a nice instrument, it wasn't for me. The neck was too thin (I'm not a Fender J player), and even with the Rotosounds on there, I couldn't get "my sound".
So different strokes for different folks. The Turner was a nice instrument, but was not the feel or sound I was going for. I also feel it's more of a one trick pony and not very versatile. The Deep 4 is pretty versatile when you change the tone settings.
