about to find out how good Modulus Customer Service is

I tried to contact Modulus when I bought my Flea Bass. The bass was new but didn't come with a warranty card. I emailed, but every mailbox was full. I called, but voicemail was full. I sent faxes and never got a response. I like the Flea Bass, but I will never buy another Modulus instrument.

Jerry Dorsch is very responsive. His email address is hard to find so I'm not sure if he wants to not have it posted to keep the spam down, so I won't post it. If you Google for "Graphite Guitar Systems" you will find his phone number.

I've talked to Gerry in the past about working on a Modulus I used to own. He was very nice and his prices are quite reasonable. He's actually going to refinish my Wal after Mike Lull does some repairs. Mike says he heavily prefers him to Wilkins. I just gave him a call, but I got the machine. Here's the contact info I got through google.

Good luck with your repairs. Sounds like Modulus did right.

I don't think so; from the description it sounded like solid reinforcing members that spanned the orginally hollow D shape of the neck. Guess I'll know for sure next week.

Interesting, I wonder if anything like this can be done as a preventative measure before the neck goes bad? I have a '91 Q5 without the truss, or whatever Modulus calls it, and while it's in fine shape now I'm beginning to fear that one day I'll open the case and she'll have this neck problem. I think I'll try to contact Gerry/Jerry at Graphite Guitar Systems.

I had a nice chat with Gerry at Graphite Guitar Systems regarding the neck issue that some folks have had with older Modulus basses without the truss rod and the short story is that he doesn't think the problem is really that common.

Gerry told me I shouldn't be too concerned but if it does happen it's not that big of a deal for him to fix, and he also said there really isn't anything of a preventative nature that can be done. So I think I'll take his advice and not sweat it knowing this. Gerry seems like a great guy and he does build basses by the way. I've asked him to email some photos and information on what he has to offer.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you all know what Gerry had to say on this issue.

Oh for god's sake, this is so stupid...

So last week (when I posted my I'm-So-Happy update) Modulus sent me a UPS tracking # the day they shipped the bass back to me. I checked the UPS website, noticed that they'd specified an incorrect zip code, and immediately contacted Modulus about this error. Their response was "Thanks for the correction. We’ll call UPS now to update the shipping record with the correct zip code."

Sure enough, they didn't.

So UPS gets my bass to within 8 miles of my address, then has to hold it in their local facility while they figure out on their own what the correct zip code is. Of course, all the delivery trucks are out, so I won't get the bass until tomorrow.

No big deal, except: I have a session tonight that I was counting on having the Modulus for...and the only other bass I have on hand is my 8-string!

(insert stream of expletives here)
