Abscessed molar OMG!!!!!!!

After a miserable nights sleep got a dentist on the phone at about 8 AM. He called in a scrip for an antibiotic and suggested I take 2 Tylenol and 3 Advil, all at one (and every 6 hours after that).

Within an hour and a half I felt a MILLION times better, and could actually eat and function. He'll be seeing me tomorrow for what I assume will be a root canal........OY!

Sounds gross but I had one that popped up at the beginning of a long weekend and by the next day it hurt so bad decided to take a toothpick and drained it myself. I made up a big glass of really hot water loaded with table salt and rinsed my mouth multiple times with this solution. It helped with the pain and also drew the corruption out of the surrounding tissue. Eased the toothpick between the tooth and gum directly under the abscess and kept easing it up until the abscess opened up and started draining. I kept my face down over the sink and just let the gunk run into the sink, spitting to help it along. When it quit running I put a finger on it and mashed out the remaining crud. I did a couple of rinses with the same hot saltwater, then gargled with peroxide a couple of times and put some gauze in around the area to help keep it dry for a while.

Relief was immediate and the thing never came back. While probing with the toothpick I dislodged a piece of popcorn kernel husk that somehow got pushed way up under my gum, and I'm sure that was the culprit.

Is your surname Rambo by any chance?

Personally I'd drink myself till I pass out or get into fetal position and cry myself to sleep.

I've had something like that before. I was chewing a piece of gum a few years back when all of a sudden there was just a huge crunch in my gum. I'm guessing it was a cavity that had gotten way too bad, but the gum had pulled out about half of a molar on the right side. For a month or so I was alright, no real terrible pain unless I didn't have a toothpick to pick out whatever I had been eating out of the crevice, but doable. Then it got bad. Real f***ing bad. I went about a month in absolute agony nearly 24/7, and with no job or dental insurance, I was screwed. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't even think, and I was about to go full on Castaway on that SOB. All the Aleve, aspirin, and Orajel in the world couldn't touch that pain. Eventually my mom came over and saw how bloody miserable I was, and offered to pay to get it fixed, and we got that sucker pulled post-haste. It was instant relief. I still got a hole in my mouth, but at least its in the back so I don't look like a bum, and I'd take that over that pain any day.

And from what I know, You do not want to drain it yourself, as that is a very bad place to get an infection and can make things 100's of times worse.
