Abscessed molar OMG!!!!!!!

If a rotten tooth pops but no one is there, does it stink?
I am an endodontist-a dentist who specializes in root canals and I got to tell you I never, ever thought I'd read a thread like this. If you're in Houston--call me and ask for the bass players discount. Lucky for you I'm a much better dentist than bass player!
Cool! Why do you say you never thought you'd read a thread like this? Because its a musician forum, or because my situation, and others described, are extreme cases?

And what of the file breaking off, and staying in there? No big deal? I figured there is too much on the line for the guy to BS me, but it kinda freaked my wife out.
Tell you what, after the Vicodin/Advil/Tylenol dose at 1:30 PM, I didn't take any/need any other pain meds until about 11PM. I see that as a good sign. Biting down is still tender, but I figure that's inflamed tissue and a need for the infection to clear from the gums.
I should upload the X-ray of my crazy roots, with the file in there - wild stuff!

No worries about your treatment--sounds like your dentist is on top of it..., yeah, the thread surprised me just by being in a musician forum. Unfortunately, your scenario isn't uncommon--but I'm used to seeing the difficult cases general dentists don't want to do. Best of luck brother--it WILL get better!

Not sure why I started this one, except I was insane with pain at the time, and my wife had fallen asleep, so it was either post, or start bashing my head against the wall to distract myself from the pain.
Hopefully mine will be a cautionary tale, and will move someone to make an appointment they have been putting off.
I bet you see all kinds of stuff. As I was lying there, and he was doing his work, I couldn't help but think....Why would you want to be doing this.....yuk!
Sympathy and condolences here, I had a molar that was cracked in half and abscessed a couple of months ago. Horrible pain, headaches, the whole bit. Nothing helped that pain, not even the vicodin. Eventually had it pulled because it was too far gone to save.
I'll guarantee you one thing: you'd rather have an abscessed molar than a kidney infarction. BTW, as I've mentioned elsewhere, I have very reasonable rates for looking at things. In this case, I'd look at it, but it'd be extra if I have to smell it.
I had an abscess that I put off too long anyway, then it decided to "flare up" on a weekend in small town USA where there's no such thing as emergency dental service. I weathered the storm until Monday morning, but things got bad Sunday night: that little bugger built up so much that it popped itself. The pain in the hours prior to the rupture was a unique life experience for me. Once it burst though, I had instant, glorious, relief for the remaining 6 hours until I could get that "emergency" appointment scheduled.
I've been much better about pursuing regular dental checkups and prompt treatment ever since.

Probably because they would have had to really open up his jaw to get it. It really should be fine. It's a surgical material left in the body all the time.
