Accessories gig bag?

I'm looking for a soft gig bag that will be just for accessories.
Basically everything you would take to a gig.

- Cables (power, instrument, etc)
- Strings
- Tools
- Picks
- Earplugs
- Random things
- amp head (GK 700 RB)

Right now i'm using a backpack (for everything except my amp head) and mostly throwing everything in the large compartment and it sucks.

I want something more organized and thought you guys might have already found something.

Does your GK 700RB have the ability to be rack mounted? If so, why not something like a gator rack bag? You can rack the amp, and put your misc. items in the pocket on top.

Maybe just a backpack larger and/or better suited for organization than your current one. I have this one & LOVE it! You can carry so much junk (and organized at that) you can't remember what you've got, but you know you've got it with you lol. You got places for everything from business cards/pens to cellphones, waterbottles, microphones, cables, effect pedals to the big stuff. I've carried a 19" rackmount powerstrip w/15ft cord in the center compartment area - no sweat. This particular bag has so many sub-compartments, a couple of netted pockets in the larger compartments keep coiled cables from being a tangled rat's nest when you pull them out. I'm never left wanting or needing more storage or organization space. Highly recommended (or similar large laptop bag).

Look at DJ bags as well. I have a Gig Skinz bag that is for a small DJ mixer but it fits my Shuttle 6 and accessories perfectly. And it was only $40. It's very nice.

A band mate uses this bag from Shure and it actually works great. Heavy duty enough to carry a moderately weighted head.

Laptop bags work great. I've used them for personal rig and PA. You can usually find them cheap on Craigslist in the computers section as people often get them free with laptops.

Have you looked on the luggage rack at Target, WalMart, <insert big box store name here>? You should find a small duffel with a stiff bottom for under $40.

I have a padded computer bag left over from being a computer tech. It measures 13"x15"x24" & has a large pocket on the outside.

I've been using it for ~ two years, and I'm really impressed. For the money I would've been pleased even if I'd have had to replace it by now. It definitely gets used, and while I try to take care of my stuff, I'm far from gentle with it.

I still keep hoping Protection Racket will come out with something. I'm a big fan of their products. FWIW, here's the closest they've got:

You can also look for large professional camera cases with either cut out or blocked foam padding. Also as a DIY hard shell attaché or suitcases and some foam rubber work well. I carry my backline 600 head in a plastic attaché style case with some foam rubber. If you're really on a low budget look for used hardshell suitcases at your local second hand store, then pad them

I have two accessory bags well one isn't abag. I keep my harps, Mike cables and tuner in a modofied Dewalt sawzall case and the rest, my music books harp holder Zoom2 a mini guitar stand and some miscelleneous stuff in a back pack that has a bunch of pockets.
I'll tell you one thing teh modified Dewalt tool case was a neat find.

As far as what to carry, I always also include extra 9 volt batteries as well as a battery tester. I also made it a practice to carry extra high B and E strings for our guitarist (His responsabilty I know---just looking out for the team). Duct tape is a must. Face it-the band has to simply have a tool/extras kit to carry around loaded with everything, including a small 1st Aid kit. Its simply part of your load out. YOU personally don't have to be the "Thank God" guy.

I'm going to bring this topic back to life, because an accessory bag is a very handy thing to have. Even though bass gig bags have external pockets, they are not compartmented, so it's impractical to put small items into them.

I'm currently using an old Land's End cloth briefcase, because it does have a number of pocket compartments. This is what I use to carry cords, a sheet music binder, batteries, earplugs, water bottles, and the like.

I'm looking for something that looks better and more professional, that essentially serves the same purposes. I'm not really interested in the duffel bag or backpack formats. I haven't looked closely at laptop bags, which might be an option.

Something like a briefcase, with both a hand handle and a shoulder strap, would do the job. But I'm not seeing anything quite like that out there. I just spent some time reviewing all the bags on the Sweetwater site. So, the search continues.

I actually searched and searched for something to fit my needs: hold all my extra crap (strings, string winder, screwdrivers, pliers, cords, adaptors, binders, guitar stand, ear plugs...you know, crap!). I used to use a brief case, but want something more flexible. I found this. I love it. Holds everything, plus! even has a mesh pocket on the front for a bottle. Here's a link where I got it. They have other options, but this was one of the more budget friendly.
