Accidentally Stripping Coating off of Black Coated Strings?

I just put some Black Diamond "Verdine White" strings on my bass, and as I was yanking them through the body, it looks like some of the coating on some strings got scratched off, as I could see the metal string shining through. It doesn't look too bad from a distance though.

Does this render the whole black coat useless? Is the string going to corrode as fast as a normal roundwound string?

Part of what a coating does is keep crud from getting in between the windings. Corrosion isn't really a huge problem with strings, it's more about the crud build up. They shouldn't corrode as quickly as normal strings, but they might not last quite as long as they would if the coating was unharmed.

I use black beauties in a string though and they haven't lost their coating.
