+1. For materials, build quality and execution the Acme cabs seem a bargain.

Oh yes, I'm with you on that, in the interest of not being wasteful I usually replace them only if they're damaged. In the case of my 110, the Beta10 does have a better tone than the factory speaker. But say something did bake, what might be successful drivers in these cabs? Weight is not a big issue for me, the modularity/footprint thing is.

My next decision will be whether or not to spring for the Fullrange for the second cab in my stack. I am really not a tweeter guy, and not having the ability to pad it back if it is too much makes me think its a no go. I think I will be fine without it, I am going for the fat vintage tone anyway.

Anyone have any pics of a B112 stack?

Awesome, I would LOVE to have two of these cabs.

BTW, does anyone know why Andy doesn't put a switch on the FR to disengage the tweeter (making it a FW if the user wants)? I get why there's no L-pad, but wouldn't it be possible to just have a kill switch? Maybe it's a capacitance issue :confused:

Is that definite? When I got mine, the FR didn't exist, but the idea was that it would be an identical cab to the FW that you could retrofit with the tweeter at a later time. Maybe that design changed once Andy productionized the FR though.

There is a blurb on Andy's site saying 'the upper mids have been smoothed with the FullRange'. I took that to mean that was done with the crossover, but just guessing there. I can't believe Andy would spec a separate driver, but who knows!

Yes, different dust-cap to tame the top-end of the woofer. No lowpass filter on the woofer - not something Andy does and I can totally understand why when you consider the cost and weight of a ~500W inductor! Of course you have to get the woofer doing exactly what you want to be able to simplify the design like that but as the plots show Andy has certainly pulled it off!

The more I think about it, the more I'm impressed by these super 12 cabs (Acme and Thunderchild). Although a super 12 is not really at the very top of my "need" list, they're just so well thought out and executed that I find myself wanting to buy one just to encourage more of this sort of thinking. (And of course I'd find a use for it).
These are the kinds of builds that raise the level of quality available for musicians everywhere. I can't say enough good things about them, and if nothing else I will continue to spread the good word.

I decided to stay with the flatwound. I have been using tweeterless cabs for the last several years (Bag End S15-D's and an Ampeg 810e loaded w/ eminence b810's) and prefer their tone. Back when I used cabs with tweeters they were turned completely off for the most part. Not eveyone's preference, but for me I get all the high end a want. Agian, I am using a Precision with flatwound strings (chromes) through a Streamliner 900.

I spent a couple hours playing with the eq and gain on the 900 yesterday and I was able to dial in a FAT-WOOLY-OVERDRIVEN tone when using a pick that still has me smiling. This was the first time that I was able to dial in a gritty tone that I would actually use. The Acme just seemed to warm-up and smooth-out the signal. The extra fullness and low end content REALLY brings it to life.

Andy says that my second cab should ship out Friday! :bassist:
