Acoustic 360/361 Reissue

I’m seeing a vision of an updated version putting the whole preamp in a beautiful blue downsized package with a 1000watt Dclass amp and a blue MAS 115 underneath it. JohnK makes the pre clone.

There is a guy here in Denver who got one of the reissue 360 amps … they were actually better than the old ones. I don't remember his name … but I went to his house and plated through it and he had some old 360, 370, 301, and other old amps … very cool experience.

I know where there is a pristine vintage one for sale. $1500 IIRC.
I always coveted one but stopped transporting big rigs LONG AGO. I haven’t lifted an SVT since way back in the late seventies.

But when the guy told me that he knew the owner, who had owned it since it was new had covers for it and had toured it extensively for many years, I was dumbfounded! he always moved it himself and NEVER let the roadies touch it ever, on threat of death.

I bought mine new in 1970 for $825. Worked and saved all Summer , by Fall she was mine.

Does anybody know what driver was in the new cab? Was it the Eminence OMEGA or a derivative?

When I visited George's shop before he was in production, I saw a pile of drivers with ceramic magnets and "Acoustic USA" OEM stickers. I don't know what they actually were or were derived from. George claimed they were a completely original design.
By the time he went into production, he was using NEO speakers. I sometimes wonder what became of the ceramic drivers.

That was a lot of money back then!

I paid $825 at Chucks.
It hurt people in the back of the room and easily kept up with two Marshall Superlead 100 stacks and two drummers when turned up to 8. Then you could hear it onstage.

(all of our bands used to play at St. Albans. Turns out they hadn’t booked anyone that night. We got the call and two guitarists two drummers and another bassist were sitting around. We said yes, gave ourselves another name showed up and crushed. The other bassist had two OEM 60w Bassman and two 2x15 cabs. Needless to say he was inaudible. The backline looked cool that night. Circa 1970)

A local shop had a super clean 360 rig for $500. It was huge sounding. It also rolls off at some midrange frequency and that’s it. If you like treble this is not yer huckleberry.

I remember these. They were very popular in the 70's. I have always thought they were too boomy, Super Muddy. I come on to TalkBass and see that their Very Much Loved. I admit some of the live recordings of these. (James Gang/ JPJ/ect.) sound good !

What I didn’t do and should have…..the 361 had a high pass cab output. Did try it with a Carvin cab too brittle sounding. Tall with low tier 12”s and a low tier horn. My keyboardist loved it for his RMI piano. I had a 4x12 ‘68 1960a Marshall cab that would have been ideal.
