Thor - Got your thread. Lots of stuff to digest! I checked out WinISD a couple years ago when I wanted to redo my cab. If I remember right, the software didn't have specs for my 40 year old CV. I couldn't find any info online for it either, which kind of disappointed me. I have forgotten which specs were needed, but I will check it out again. Do you know what would be similar or comparable between today's 18" with a 1972 18" CV? That is what I tried to figure out at the time, to substitute a different model for the specs.

Bobby Bass - I remember those Vega cabs. Man alive, back then a bass player need his own roadie! I was lugging around my cab on top of my car, strapped down on luggage racks, with the hope that someone was around to help me get it off when I got to my destination.

Be sure you don't use any of the obsolete older "Pro", Alpha, or Beta versions. The current version for Windows 7-8 is linked on their Facebook page, and last I looked was still not on the Linearteam website. It is version 0.7.0.900, and is somewhat confusingly labeled as Pro Alpha on the splash screen.

When you don't have T-S specs for an old driver the best solution is to derive them yourself through testing of the actual unit, especially if a recone may have been done at some point. Rod Elliot's site (sound.westhost.com) details the methodology pretty well.

Passinwind - Thanks for the info. I already downloaded the obsolete versions, but I haven't installed them yet. The info on the Web site was a little confusing in reference to what was up to date, so I downloaded everything. I think I saw a reference to Facebook but I ignored it, because I don't use Facebook. I guess I will ask my granddaughter to help me out with that. I did a quick look through of Sound Westhost. Lots of helpful stuff there.

Thor - I did a read of your cab building. Very interesting. Stuff that I wouldn't have even thought of, like the extra middle brace. Maybe I read it too fast and it was there, but how did you come up with the hole sizing for the brace?

Also, the big thing with me, the porting, which can be the fly in the ointment if not done correctly. How did you come up with your porting, and are you still happy with it?

When I did my box forever ago, my first thought was portability. It had to fit in a VW Beatle. I first measured the width of the car door opening and went from there. The finished box ended up being 23.5 x 23.5 x 14, and when done it fit like a glove into the backseat of my Bug. I had no clue on how to port it. I went to various stores and the library to get info. This was 1980, so there was no Internet to help out. I didn't want to screw it up, plus I was on a timeline to get it done, so I put an open back to it, a 10" wide opening across the center, similar to a Fender guitar amp. My thinking at the time, was to eventually experiment a little with porting but I never did. I was ok with the way it sounded, and I still am.

Now that I have some time, plus a bigger car, I want to build a better cab, the right way. I have been looking at Carvin's BR118 cab, with a slotted port across the bottom. I have also thought of narrowing the height of the port, and adding another one at the top. I welcome any thoughts on porting. I know all of this depends on cab size. The BR118 is 25.5 x 23.5 x 18.25 (H x W x D - 6.33 cu ft) and about what I am thinking for dimensions with maybe rounding them out a little - 26 x 24 x 18 - 6.5 cu ft, for easier construction. Side note: the cubic feet is for the entire cab and does not include the set-back for the speaker. Oh my gosh, I forgot to subtract for the thickness of the boards. When you get older, you need to create a check list for things like that, before you start your projects!

I don't use Facebook either, but there are tons of totally public pages there, including the WinISD one and many other commercial entities. Here's a direct link though: http://www.linearteam.org/download/winisd-07x.exe

Ha! I was just getting to reply to that! I went to Facebook to get the link. I got it and installed it. A total different look, plus no inch conversion that I can find. I had to do a lot of calculator conversions.

Thanks to Passinwind, I got the latest version of WinISD. I tinkered around with it with different speakers. I settled in with a new Cerwin-Vega and did a possible cabinet with dual circular ports. I also found a local speaker repair shop online, and I sent them off a email requesting if they could help me with info and specs, to include possible bench testing. It wouldn't hurt just to take my speaker to them anyways to give it a once-over.

I did a potential design using Paint, which I am going to attach.

That was too easy. I was searching all around for some sort of conversion tool, to the point of frustration. I didn't think to click on the descriptor itself. Thanks!

Have you considered building a 301?
