Acoustic B100 Question(Frequency/Notch Knob)

Hey, I just got an Acoustic B100 bass amp the other day, and I pretty much have a gist of all the settings, except for one thing: This "Frequency/Notch" Knob. My dad is a guitar player of 35-40 years and he has no idea what it is.

Can someone shed some light on what this is and what it does? All it seems to do is put my bass out of tune.
 
Notch filter removes a narrow band of frequencies, usually for eliminating feedback or reducing unwanted resonance (boominess in a particular room, say). It shouldn't have any effect on tuning, but it will have some effect on EQ. On the B100 it's a -10 dB notch, sweepable from 50 Hz to 1 kHz.

It's mostly just a problem-solver. If you're getting feedback, turn it to wherever makes the feedback go away. If I'm not having any problems, I just leave it all the way up. Somewhere else might work better for you. Just off the bottom helps with 60 Hz hum, for example. Anyway, experiment with it a bit.

Along these lines, I too just bought the Acoustic B100C bass. It seems the filter works and adjusts the sound whether the frequency notch button is engaged or not. Seems like it should have no effect if not engaged. Does yours do that? More importantly, I notice that once I turn on the amp, if I wait a few minutes and then engage the overdrive button, with the gain, OD, OD Level, and Volume up to 9 or 10 o'clock, I get a loud pop that I fear may be damaging to the speaker. The longer I wait, the louder the pop, as if a charge is building up. Once it pops, I can immediately push the button repeatedly, and it's not so bad. But if I wait a while ... BOOM! I doubt this is normal. any thoughts?
 
Notch filter works good if your using massive amounts of high gain distortion.

And set it in the midrange area.

Otherwise it's used to cut frequencies in a very narrow band. As opposed to cutting with EQ which is wider band.
