Acoustic B200H problem...HELP!!

I bought an Acoustic B200H almost a year ago now and it was great. However recently I have run into a problem. As soon as you turn it on it would power up and immediately blow a fuse. I thought it was weird so I popped in the replacement fuse...same thing. I did some googling and found one other occurrence but can't seem to find that page again. So I took it to the shop a week or two ago and they said they would have it done by today (we leave for tour tomorrow) I got a call from them yesterday saying to look for a loaner from a friend cuz they've hit a snag in plan. Today my guitar player went to pick up his head and asked about mine, they said...

"Acoustic went out of business so we can't figure out the exact part we need to order yet but we're working on tracking it down"

anyone else hear of/or had this problem before and maybe have some insight on what part is needed?

The one I ended up borrowing from a friend is the same model...hopefully it makes it back fine or else I have 2 amps to replace....

Dude Acoustic is now owned by Guitard Center, and last time I checked they are still in business. The old Acoustic, which in most people's opinions was way better than the new Acoustic, stopped manufacturing a while ago, yes. But the part you need is on a newer Acoustic model and should be easily available for your repair shop to get. Tell them to get on your amp and stop making excuses.

I knew it wouldn't be some "exclusive" part that is the reason I chose the shop I did. The other one I went to kept telling us the turn around time on getting parts direct from the manufacturers, so we grabbed our heads and left. Took it to this place because they generally just slap some parts in and call it a day from what I've heard from others.

From the general description I gave of the problem with the amp anyone have any ideas on what part it could be?

if it is blowing fuses, a component is likely shorted and causing it to draw too much current. in the 'old days', we would check for shorted caps, transistors and such. these days it is likely filled with smt stuff and i wouldn't know where to begin. yeh, i'm old. in any case, i would look at the power supply first, then the output stage.

A year old?

It's still under warranty.

Get it back to GC before it expires.

GC will give you a new one to take home with you - out the door if you bought it from GC or one of their affiliates (MF) and you don't even need the original receipt as it is in the regional computer data base and you can get any receipt reprinted by them if you ask.

Shows how lame a privateer music 'repair facility' is about what's on the market - huh?



If you bought the Pro-Coverage, then it has a lot more than that for warranty.

update for anyother newer acoustic owners out there.

when your gear craps out on you just take it into guitar center and they will automatically (based on my experience) know why you are there. As stated earlier in this thread I got mine from musicansfriend and it was still a painless and quick swap out. I printed out the receipt from my mf web order history and brought it in just in case. The dude just glanced at it, said cool, and gave me the last one they had in stock.

hopefully i don't have to try to swap this one out before I can afford to upgrade to a new rackmount rig. stuff just gets destroyed being carted across the country in the trailer and I figure a nice sturdy case will be my best bet to keep stuff in decent condition.

A well built head is a well built head. 3 of my heads can be rackmounted but I don't abuse them enough to need to rack them up. If I carried a tuner, a power conditioner, a preamp, and a power amp I could see a reason to. For the most part, reputable brands products don't need babied. They're built tough to be abused by musicians. (You should see my Alpha Bass head!) The GC Acoustics are just cheap quick profit machines. If 2/100 break, so what! They're making enough to replace a lot more than that! Don't let the poor QC of cheapies make you think the real deal will crap out on you often too.
