Acoustic bass preamp di

I never heard a whisper about this thing and it was sitting in the case at my local guitar center!
This thing is huge! It’s also got every single thing you could possibly want, headphone jack, effects loop, compressor, overdrive on a switch, aux in, di a bypass switch, which kept me from buying an EBS and it doesn’t specify current draw but I’m doubting it’s on the same level as the EBS which for me was unusually high and I wouldn’t have been able to use the power supply that powers my pedal board with it.

I didn’t buy it, but man I think I’m going to! It’s got everything their vintage flavored combo amps have and none of the stuff the higher wattage class d amps have, looks like a serious contender! Especially at the price they are selling it!

Looks cool.. I remember Playing the new Amp when it first came out. With a jazz bass and a couple of guys asked me how I got that tone.. And were surprised a mim jazz and a cheap b200 did it.. So this has my interest too.. Let know what you think

Other than the name, what does this pedal have in common with the great vintage Acoustic amps? The pedal may sound just fine, but I would not assume it sounds anything like a vintage Acoustic 360. If you want that sound, there are better pedal choices, such as the DiCosimo 360+ or Viva Analog.

I’m curious what criteria makes the DiCosimo 360+ or Viva Analog a better choice.

It appears it's 130mA. Screen Shot 2020-08-27 at 3.49.02 PM.png

Scubaduba: To be clear, the DiCosimo and Viva Analog IMHO are a better choice to be more faithful to a vintage 360+. (Not saying necessarily a better sounding Preamp DI, because that depends on your taste.) I think they are better because they track the feature set (variamp and fuzz controls) of the vintage Acoustic 360 preamp, with a few modifications to make them more useful and practical in a pedal format, e.g., there's no "electronic tuning fork" controls. I believe Viva Analog and DiCosimo sought to recreate the Acoustic 360 preamp in a pedal format. I have the latest DiCosimo version 360+ and think it's great. The pedal the OP linked to has the Acoustic name on it, but its compressor, 4 band EQ, overdrive, etc. are not on the original Acoustic 360 preamp, and presumably come from rather different circuit designs. I had to return mine, which was a bummer. The preamp really nails that clanky solid state tone and screams late 70s / early 80s tone...at least how I hear solid state bass tones of that era in my head.

Unfortunately, there was a high frequency white noise / hiss present that of course became more prominent as gain and/or high mids or treble were turned up. Live with a band you won't notice it as you play, but in between songs it was present. The sound guy on an outdoor live gig complained about it, and when I fired it up at home, it was confirmed. It's disappointing because listening to some clips of that gig the tone was spot on Acoustic...but I can't use it with the hiss. It could have just been my unit, so I'm curious if anyone else has noticed the same issue.

Also, using the preamp as a headphone practice amp, I noticed an odd design choice (flaw). The aux in gets processed by the effects loop. I had a chorus pedal running in the FX loop and noticed that the song playing on my phone (running into the aux in) was also effected by the chorus. That would not have been a deal breaker, but certainly an odd routing decision IMHO.

I bought mine today and i notice the hiss in mine is permanent and concistent with the od and without. Is only in the DI signal in the amp is super quiet. I need to try the effects loop tomorrow but bases in you review i bought the 2 year warranty.

Answering to the Shift button question, it bumps the mids kinda in a vintage way but is not related to the frequency notch and the compresor is really smooth and i will say transparent with passive basses but when you turn it off you can notice that the clip light is more active. I notice the effects loop aux in before mention. If you put effects of any kind tru it the aux in signal gets effected. I wont return the pedal for that because a use a little console to practice but it should not happen. That DI is super loud they should put the DI volume knob like the amps maybe thats why hiss. Comparing it to others is a great choice. I had the Hartke Bass atack 2 and the MXR M80 and this pedal beats them both in sound and fabrication.

Yeah, killer authentic Acoustic tone; terrible hiss. That was disappointing. The effects loop / aux in quirk is minor, but odd, but it's too bad the hiss is present through the DI and 1/4" out. It could have been a gig bag direct rig / fly rig for me, if not for that hiss.

You are right biggest piece of sh... I ever bought. Fist unit with the hiss, second one crap out in a practice. Call costumer service didn't answer my calls. Finally i communicate with them tru facebook. What a shame!

I had the hiss issue, too, and was pretty disappointed because I really like the preamp. After a little experimenting I figured out the hiss goes away on mine if I don't use the 9v power supply that came with the pedal. I tried a battery and it was nice and quiet. I plugged it into 2 different pedalboard power sources and it sounded even better. Hopefully this will be true for anyone else who has one that has this problem.
