Acoustic duo hits the spot

Well, here goes - a gig report I can be happy to share! The last few gigs have been so awful I couldn't bring myself to post about them.

I got a last-minute call to play at a local hotel lounge and was able to fill a two-hour slot with my musical partner and friend Whitney, a singer/songwriter who also plays guitar. Our duo mostly plays covers, but a decent number of tasteful originals are scattered among the set list as well.

Our "trio" on the exterior of the building. I thought this was neat!

The bar. With no one here yet, it was quite serene.

Mike the Barkeep (manager) and my musical partner Whitney. Mike pulled for us and was able to convince the owner to keep us comin' back. Thanks, Mike!

That's all. Thanks for checking it out. There should be a few more gigs coming out of this as it was their best night of the week, according to Mike the Barkeep. They really enjoyed us and Mike the Barkeep said he'd be in contact for more gigs...

The PA was amazing, too. Sound guy used to work in Nashville and really knows how to work a sound system. We made sure to throw him a shout out.

Outstanding! I do enjoy a live band with lots of energy, thumping out the hits and dance tunes. But sometimes you just want a nice little duo or trio just playing their hearts out and killing it on a whole different level. Yours looks like a really nice gig in a really nice place. That seems to be a charming venue. I know I'd like to play there. I hope it's a regular spot for you. Good going.

Actually, they'd need to use the rooftop helipad. more room for dancers up there.

Love it! I've been playing for years with the four-man Chalmers Doane Trio. It's on the posters out front. People come in and you can always sort out someone who thinks we're quantitatively challenged. Throughout the night as the drummer/MC introduces the band, he always ends with, "and collectively we're the Chalmers Doane Trio". Never a wink or sly smile. You two should adopt it as an ongoing thing.

I guest with a uke band when they have a 'big gig' and always use my L2000 through a 20w practice amp. They keep on at me to join them full time but I'm not a huge fan of ukes.

The L-2000 was a perfect choice for the gig. It's my oldest bass, an '88. A lifer, for sure.
