Acoustic's At It Again!

Looks to have some good features and a good warranty, but time will tell.
I don't know, Guitar Center manufacturing and selling their own brand amp with a label they bought. I don't mind store brand Cheerios, but that is at a different level of consumability.

I hate those spring loaded handles and metal corners.
Is there only 6 screws holding on that grill? Does it rattle?

Yeah, $50 markdowns usually make me kinda crabby, too... but for some odd reason, this one seems like... like a $50 markdown. IMHO. ;)

And the more I get used to my B200H, the more it sort of smacks of a 400RB with an old-school sound vibe and better detailed EQ section. I too hope the reliability is similar as well.

Questions about the Acoustic Amplifier Company.

1. where are the amps made ?
2. what relation to the original Acoustic Control Corp and the Marks family ?
3. from a design standpoint, do these amps share more than a resemblance to the originals ?

The MI industry has more than a few examples of someone buying up the rights to earlier stuff. (Kustom ring a bell ? Howz about Fender ... and the debacle that was CBS ? Gibson & Norlin ? Ampeg and whoever it is that own's 'em now ?)

The acquirer can trade on the past success of the company and / or nostalgia. Maybe that's a great way to get good new product out, in a competitive environment where name recognition matters. Or maybe it's a way to cash in on the name while delivering something that maybe otherwise wouldn't gain any attention at all.

I guess I'm skeptical at this point. I mean it could as easliy be Uli Behringer doing this as Steve Marks & his dad ... or the guys who own Guitar Center / Musicians Friend - they do have a penchant for house brands after all ...

If it's just another amp made in China - I can't get real excited by it ... then again I walked away from a 360 in favor of an SVT way, way back there so maybe I wasn't a good target to begin with...

anyway I'd like to know more about how this whole thing came into existance...

Fine if you're not interested in being a happy bassist then don't search.
Seriously though, I can vouch for the majority of us Acoustic owners in saying we are the most satisfied bassists on this site.
Just look at any one of the threads, including the club thread.

My first bass amp 20+ years ago was an Acoustic 220, I still have it and it's still going strong. It's outlasted 9 bands, 15 basses, 5 girlfriends and one wife. The bee-atch just wont die. It may not be the best sounding amp I own but it's sure as heck the toughest.

I may just get the head and cab..I'm so tempted..

actually that post was intended as a toungue in cheek response - albeit maybe too dry a response to the 'search' suggestion.

So I went and searched and found kind of what I expected to. I actually find it kinda sad. I was the owner of a 360 for a while. I ended up trading it back to the store of purchase for an SVT rig and never looked back. Well except for a loaner 450 head while the SVT was down for the count once. I can say that an Acoustic 450 head driving a 70's fridge was a frightenly punchy, almost violently punchy rig.

I equate GC's revival of the brand with Cadillac using Black Dog as a theme for a car ad. Right or wrong - it rub's me the wrong way, though not enough to lose sleep over.

My prediction is that it will be a cold day, way down under when they actually release a 360/361 - god knows who needs one these days anyway and frankly it would be nutz of them to actually do it in quantities greater than say 10 ...

So when it comes to the title of this thread - a more appropriate title would have been 'Guitar Center's at it again'.

Far as that 220 head ? Well that head and that 450 loaner and the 360/361 I had have as much in common with the *new* Acoustic amps as the humingbird at my feeder ...

And so it would have been if the amps said "Guitar Center" on 'em... I'm not an Acoustic-nostalgia guy -- in fact, the one Acoustic I did own (a mini 15" combo in like '85) I returned after one day because I thought it sounded like junk -- I always played what I could afford that sounded good.

And while I'm now employed enough to afford any amp I want, I own the new Acoustic B200, B200H, and B20. I still go by what sounds good.

And I don't care if a unit says "Acoustic," "Cheerios," or "Made in Oompa-Loompa Land." I own and play these amps because I tried them, and they were sweet and hard as rock candy right off. NO idealism, simple try 'em/buy 'em.
