Acoustic's At It Again!

Thanks - I've book marked that one and I'll follow along for a while. My real concern with this 're-birth' of ACC as AA is really the 'Guitar Center exclusive' - like you know - where else you going to go for a B52 ? Those guys aren't known for their dedication to quality. No, from my perspective it's more like tonnage is king.

So my concern is that the focus becomes the B-20 - which is 'who cares' for me .. and of course the very, very few 360/361's they'll sell - not very many of you guys have actually used one of those things. I have and I gotta say - other than for the nostalgia of it all - no freakin' way ... Now - if they got serious with guys like Steve Rabe and Russ Allee about a modernized 450 in a preamp and powered front firing cab - then I might be more inclined to take it seriously.

At least one guy I know of is using an old 360 pre with his Berg IP setup...

still skeptical but staying tuned ... I would love to see these guys come back for real. Just not as a SKU exclusive to Guitar Center/Musicians Friend/Guitar Trader/Music 123/Engulf & Devour - I'm not immune to baby blue sexiness in a bass amp. Not at all...

I just picked up one of these 200H and 115 package deals at GC. Not bad, not bad at all. Nice rig. Sounds really nice, very loud, good construction. Will probably pick up another 115 and have a very nice little stack. For less than $600, a 2x15 stack isn't a bad thing. Might even grab the 600H when it comes out in October.

Sure, it isn't the old Acoustic stuff, but it's nice...and a 3 year warranty helps ease the concern.

I dont know what to say dude... you need to READ whats been posted on the Acoustic site. Theres a TON of info about who, what, where when, why and how these amps ( GC acoustic and American stuff) are being built again and you will probably be very surprised at what you hear when trying out one of the new Acoustic set ups for yourself. Look at my pics on the site and you'll see that I have a 450 ( among others) and love using it ( I just finished a session two days ago and the 450 ROCKED amazingly!) almost very chance I get.

It's got a BLUE light!!!!!!?????? Why didn't you say so - That makes ALL the difference!! THAT makes it b'utiful!

Yes, my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek! To be honest, for me the jury is still out! Way too many well respected trade marks have died only to be resurrected to peddle cheap crap that is an insult to the name. I really really would like Acoustic to return to its former glory and quality. It would make a nice change!!!!

It's all very confusing because there is suppose to be a "US" made high end line of Acoustics coming out. Who knows when. I guess it's like the Detroit automotive car company first selling a model made overseas while they get around to making the cars they really want to make. Of course there's some assumptions that US made would be better, or maybe it just fit better with their marketing plans. Maybe like Ashdown, they think they might make more for the US market.

Hope they look different.

Of course for the people overseas, maybe they don't want a made in the US model. Why pay extra just for an origin of manufacturing.

As much as I prefer to put my countrymen to work, I have no issue where these amps come from as long as the design and QC is good. I know they sound good, and if they hold up well over time then the only improvements I could see are more power and less weight. The heads use a wood box (read: added weight) probably for aesthetic reasons, but as I am not an Acoustic-a-phile, I wouldn't mind a bit if the upcoming B600H looked like a GK 800RB with a nice blue stripe.

I DO hope that the 600 sticks with rotary EQ as opposed to bowing to the old Acoustic look by adding a graphic.

No one around here seems to be aware that there are actually TWO different "Acoustic" companies at work here, that have pretty much nothing in common except an agreement that they can both use the "Acoustic" name.

One company is "Acoustic inc", or something like that (I'm to lazy to look it up). IIRC the have a close relationship with GC (owned?) and they are coming out with all the affordable stuff like the B200H. this stuff is made overseas (I don't remember where) and most of it was designed by a guy who used to work for Crate. This is not a slag on Crate or Acoustic, it just needs needs mentioning as some people seem to believe that the "old" Acoustic guys were involved in the design, which is not the case.

The other company is the "Acoustic Control corp." that made the mighty 360 back in the day. This company is now being resurected by some of the old employees, including the guy who designed the famous folded horn cabinets. Their stuff will be made in the US and they will reissue the folded horn cabs!

Like I said, if I understood the deal correctly these two companies have nothing in common except the agreement about the name "Acoustic".

All this is just stuff that I read on the Acoustc site and a previous thread here on TB, so take it for what it's worth and feel free to check the facts, cause it's been a while since I read those threads.

+1. Hartley Peavey once said in an interview that "Music companies die, but their names never do!". IMO if GC Acoustic amps sound good and are built solidly enough to hold up for casual gigging, I'm in.The prices look great.

I'd love to see the new ACC reissue the mighty 360! I gigged with one a few times and IMO it was a great amp. The one I borrowed was beat to death, and still sounded really good. One of my first decent amps was an Acoustic 136 1-15" combo that I bought used. Talk about a bulletproof amp!
