Active basses

I put an active preamp I built (two band baxandall) in the late 70's into my 64 P bass and haven't played a passive bass since. My goal was to be able to adjust the volume without having the tone change. I had tried various treble bleeds but wasn't happy until I put in the preamp. I've put preamps into every passive bass I've had since if the were not active. Even something as simple as a 1 transistor buffer works for me. Having the tone controls at the bass is just too handy as well.

I play live alot- stages are different- rooms are different- back lines too

When 4 other bands are on the bill and you just get a "line check" - there's no time for ME to get all. Anthony Jackson about my tone.

9 times out of 10- it's a My Musicman 5 HH

When I have the time and a sound man that gives a sh$t and my tubey direct box and a monitor mix- and a good preamp- sure- ill bring the 72 jazz or 62p

The audience just cares about the song- reason number 1

Over the years (decades) I've owned several dozen basses. I have seven left. They are all active. It is a RESULT not a plan. It's more a situation where the basses I REALLY like just happen to be active, as opposed to me going out and looking for active basses.
