Active Pickups/Advice

Okay, so I just bought a Sterling Ray Sub Series bass. This is my first bass with an active pickup. I love the way it sounds, but it’s a totally different beast from the jazz bass I was playing.

Any advice on amps/pedals that respond well with actives pickups?
I was using a JHS mini foot fuzz with the jazz bass but it was way too much with the active bass.

Anything. You just need to either keep the eq flat in your bass, or down your gain. Most pedals have a pad switch inside of them for active electronics. Open it up and check it out.

You’re not maxing out all of the knobs, are you? Active tone stacks are usually cut and boost, and allow you to actually explore the in-between settings. And the buffering allows you to turn the volume down without affecting the tone.

In a live band setting I did roll back the volume a little which seemed to help. Tone knobs were in the middle. I just need a pedal or something that can give me the dirt I need without it being way too much. We play punk/hardcore (black flag/bad brains-ish) and I was using different fuzz pedals, but they don’t seem to be transferring over well to this bass.
