Acts that should have been bigger in the U.S.

Found them on late night MTV in the early '80s using the name Angel City....Something about a possible confusion with the band Angel,at the time.The song was Face The Day.
A lot of american bands pointed to them as an influence.Great White,at their peak, covered their songs.

Still have that album Dark Room and Two Minute Waring.

Another vote for The Angels. Their name and the legal troubles that followed held them back in the US. Let that be a lesson to other bands: don't pick generic names that other bands already use.

Another Aussie band that didn't break in the US but were great was Rose Tattoo.

In the 70's they were huge in Europe and Australia, but not so much in the USA. They only had one number one in the USA, compared to 9 in the UK and Germany.

The revival has brought them more success in the USA in recent years.

The question was which acts should have been bigger, not which acts has no one ever heard of :p

My mom doesn't know music and even she knew who ABBA was. Something tells me they were as big as they were gonna get ;)

Biffy Clyro - Great Scottish band that is huge in the UK has a had a concert at wembly and so on. But haven't made it in the US yet.

Blur - Also huge in the UK but people over here only know them for Song 2

Three bands come to mind for me. There's a band in Louisiana called LeRoux who's first album is still one of my favorites. It has one of the prettiest rock songs (IMO) in "New Orleans Ladies". Great vocals. Sound like a cross between Little Feat and the Little River Band.
There were two bands in Indy back in the 70's that I always thought should have been more successful. The Faith Band and Roadmaster. The Faith Band actually recorded the song " Dancing' Shoes". Also recorded by Nigil Olsson (sp)former drummer for Elton John. Faith Band singer Carl Story actually wrote it. Their kb player went on to preform with John Mellancamp until he fell victim to a heart attack. A super talent.
Roadmaster recorded an album "Sweet Music" that was just killer. Their bass player also spent time with JCM.

Really? "Ask any America"? I'm an American and I can name many Thin Lizzy songs:

"Emerald"
"Jailbreak"
"Warriors"
"Romeo and The Lonely Girl"
"Cowboy Song" (My personal favorite)
"Honesty is No Excuse"
"Brought Down"

Shade of Blue Orphanage is a great album.

I could keep going.
