I did not realize that Sting and Copeland had fistfights. That's pretty serious. If it got to that level in my band, I would probably want to break up, too.

Well, lots of money on the line and all that. Tensions rise and the contracts have already been signed, etc. Lots of times members are under a legally bound obligation to stay or in other words, to honor their contract. They are being supported by advances and basically money that’s not theirs, and if they break contract are required to pay it back. At that point they go broke paying attorneys what is essentially chump change to a massive record company. That’s why there are Taylor Swift’s and Jay Z’s in the world that basically murder everyone in the room and stake their claim, in the proverbial sense. The smart ones have had years of sour music industry history to learn from and not make the same mistakes.

Don’t forget Stings songwriter royalties that also came into play with that money talk. Music by the Police. Lyrics by Sting.... all that stuff came into play. I read the autobiography “Broken Music” years ago....

I think I read that when the four of them were in high school, none of them could play much (aside from maybe three or four chords), least of all Adam, but he looked the part, walked the walk, and owned his own bass and amp so he got the job.

Most of us on TB were once a lot like that.

Every musician starts out not being able to play.

Listen to the early U2 tracks, when they had to play 11 o'Clock Tick Tock 3 times to fill out a set - Bono's singing has improved by leaps & bounds.

Not to reopen this thread or anything, but having met those "dicks" , I have to say they are nothing of the sort. Genuinely nice people as long as you don't scream at them

Actually Andy and Stewart made a deal with Sting. In order for them to accept that 8 out of 10 songs on their albums where his and not evenly distributed between the 3 of them, he handed over a chunk of the royalties for his songs to them. They have not suffered financially.

Andy and Sting had their brawls too .. somewhere on youtube there is live footage of Andy taking a swing at Sting with his telecaster when Stings steps into his side of the stage.

Definitely Noel. At least he understands music.
