I have a vintage Fender musicmaster. It's got a great sound, but no tonal variation. I really want that treble punch so i'm trying to figure out how i could wire up a second strat pickup or something and mount it to closer to the bridge. I refuse to rout the wood because i'm afraid it'll mess with the sound. This pickup has to be short and not too high off the body. Mounting the pickup won't be a problem, but what do you guys think about the rest? is it possible?

Explain to me how removing a very small amount of wood will change the sound of the instrument?
