Adding 6" mid-range driver to cab

Yeah, leland knows what he's doing. Inductors have magnetic fields that can screw with each other if they're close together. You can remedy it by spacing them farther apart or rotating one 90 degrees so the magnetic poles are pointing north and east for example.

Yep. that will be fine. Just pay attention to how you lay them out and don't put the red inductor coils too close to each other. There's a quick graphic and tutorial on Greenboy's site about inductor placement and orientation.
 
Erse is quality stuff although with an overlap like you described you'd have a drop in impedance between 900 and 1.5k, possibly too low for the amp although I think the delta12LF is rising pretty good by then.

Drooping impedance has been my biggest concern as well when modeling some xovers for my Avatar B212. I'm in the midst of installing the Faital 6PR150 in lieu of the Foster horn as I don't need the super highs. Every slope xover except 6dB/oct really puts a dip in the min impedance, and I'm worried about overloading my amp with a second cabinet.

Has anyone actually tried a simple capacitor crossed over at about 1600 hz?
 
Not to hijack my own thread, but I put together a speakon cable last night that allows me to utilize the GK biamp feature, giving me the use of the tweeter. I still want to see what it does in a band context, but, playing by myself, it is much more useful in conjunction with the mid drivers. There isn't a hole in the frequencies like there used to be. I actually like what it adds to the overall sound now that it's not simply adding a metallic clank to an otherwise deep sound. I'm really happy with the tone I'm getting with all the mods!

If that's the case you're doing something wrong, either in choosing the component values or the simulation.

Please feel free to suggest the component values for a 12 or 18 dB/oct hi-pass filter at 1000-1200 hz. 8 ohm speaker, no zobel, and assume an Le of about .3 mH.

I just wired up a few crossovers on my desk and ran the impedance curves---the multi-pole filter measured impedance had a droop of about 1/2 the speaker impedance. Basically what the software simulated. I don't see a way around the droop using a conventional parallel configured crossover.

I'd like to try running the 12" woofers at fullrange, and crossing over the 6" to cover 800hz and above... with the Eminence PXB2800 I'm running, would it do any harm to simply run a signal through the crossover and to the 6", while sending a straight signal to the 12"? Would that mess with the impedance? I'd like to see if I like the sound of running things this way, and possibly swap the crossovers for low-pass filters for the 6". Any and all help is appreciated!

You should be fine. The impedance of the 12s will be higher at 800 Hz than at bass frequencies.
 
I'll ask another question- will going without a crossover, and running both the 12" and 6" straight from the jack make the impedance go from 8ohm to 4ohm, as both ar 8ohms on their own? I understand this is not reccommended, but I'd like to try it out and see what it sounds like.

Not recommended? It's pretty much moronic, but will yield a 4 ohm impedance for a short while - until the 6" catches fire. After that it's a regular 8 ohm cab again.

Joking aside, it's not really a valid test. How it sounds without a proper cross-over isn't particularly indicative of how it will sound with one.

As was quickly posted in response to your question, the Midrange was not designed to handle bass frequencies. Consequently, it would be damaged quite easily from overexcursion or voicecoil meltdown (or both).
