Adding head to combo amp?

Apologies if this question has been posted already, I'm new here.
I have a Fender Rumble 150 (4 ohm) and I'm considering an upgrade.
Would it be advised to get a new setup all together or could I just get a separate compatible head and add it to my combo?

Not practical to add a new head to a combo, go look for something that meets your new needs and sell off the old combo.

It's highly doubtfull that Fender somehow over-speced the speaker in your combo to accept a lot more power than it already does,would just bump their cost for no reason.

Keep the combo for home use or backup, and spec out a full rig. Sell off the combo if you think it will make sense and offset the new rig's cost. As said above, that speaker will only be spec'd for use with that head's level of output. Most standalone amp heads will blow through the average combo amp speaker.

Getting into the head and cab game can be fun because you can upgrade either piece at different times and drastically change your sound.

A combo is a nice thing to have around, but they are easy to grow out of.

I just went through this same thing. The only solution is to get a new rig.

you can't really accomplish that without major and impractical mods to the combo amp.

grab an affordable speaker cabinet to use in conjunction with whatever head(s) you end up picking

Check the size of the opening. For a while I had an Ampeg B2R head in my Fender BXR3O0. All I had to do was add two wood blocks to accept the screws from the 19 inch rack mounts. The Rumble 150 looks like it could be the same
