Advice - keep or return?

'90s G&Ls are great instruments and they're worth repairing (despite their deserved reputation for neck problems) but if you're just starting out on bass you want a playable instrument, not a project.

Return it. There will be other great basses. We're living in a bass golden era when even very cheap instruments can be great players.

Leave that G&L for someone who wants to go through the hoops of trying to get it repaired and get yourself something that works now.

Return. This is not the 1st G&L bass , tributes included that have neck/truss rod issues. Do a search. You will be surprised.

So Anyway, how does it play? Any fret buzz? If it played well, and was at a good price, I'd keep it and not worry about the neck. But that's me with a room full of other basses and a soft spot for G&L's and Mother of Formica pickguards.

Since the OP sounds like is a guitar player seeking a first bass, then it's probably best to return it or work out a deal with the vendor.

Plays pretty well, there's some fret buzz though. I also have a soft spot for G&L's, love the color of this one and it's fairly light (which I like). Neck feels good, I can't really see much warping, threw a set of 45-100's on it, the bow that I saw in the store is much better if not gone. I don't like the fact that the truss rod is maxed though. If I hadn't brought it in for a setup and saw it as it sits now I wouldn't have known there was anything wrong ‍♂

Hello! Long time guitarist that recently took up bass. I just picked up a 90's G&L LB-100. It jumped off the wall at me at my local guitar center, absolutely love the color and the feel but after a visit to my tech for a setup I got the sad news that the neck has a "hump and a dip" truss rod is maxed and he couldn't straighten it out even with a 2mm spacer.

I can still return it to GC or I was considering sending it off to warpedneck.com to see if it could be saved.

What would you do?

As a long time player who has done just about every kind of setup and/or mod/repair to a bass one can imagine, I'm forgiving of all bass related problems except bad neck issues.
