Have a 4 piece rock band, need to pick up some new mains on the "affordable" side. Hate to use the cheap word as that is usually what one ends up with. Thinking just some good workhorse 15", we have subs and plenty of power. Have thought about Carvin, Peavey and JBL. Any recommendations or insights?
Thanks so much,

What is affordable? I'd say to figure out your price range, look around on the internet to find what fits your budget, then ask some questions on specific models. My affordable and your affordable are probably way different, at least give us a price range.

Carvin LS series:

There are a couple of threads on TB about these and the reviews are very good for such an affordable speaker.

Edit: I missed the part where you said you already had powered subs. In that case, mains with 12"s are more appropriate than 15"s. That's assuming you also have an active crossover and separate amps.

Using 12" mains over subs gives better clarity and the subs will fill out the bottom end. Yamaha SM112V's are a great choice. The can be used as mains or monitors. Stay away from JBL JRX series. If you can look at the Yorkville speakers. Great sound and can be had at a good price.

Hey thanks to all for the info. I will read up on the suggestions. We have 18" subs and separate amps - but hate to lug them around if we can help it. Again, thanx a lot.
