Hey guys. Currently I have a 6-space rack. It has a power conditioner, tuner, 2 blank panels, and a gk 700rb-ii head. I'm thinking of ditching it, since I really dont need to lug that thing around. If I do this, I will get a tuner pedal instead. My only hangup is sometimes when I play smaller gigs I dont use my board. Should I just suck it up and bring my board, or should I down grade it to a 4 space rack? I'm leaning more towards option A, but would like your input.

Advice on rack/no rack

Ditch the power conditioner and rack tuner. Rack the head by itself for protection, use a pedal tuner.
thats kinda what i was figuring. I have a 2 space rack that "came with it" according to my friend at GC. Since the fan/vent is on top, would this cause it to potentially overheat?

Pedalboard. Its decently small, just has a wah, trem/boost, chorus, and vt bass dlx
If you're the one moving your gear, ditch the rack ears & rack. GK has a padded gig bag with shoulder strap that I used for over a year with mine. Never an issue. If someone else moves your gear look into a 3 Space SKB shallow X rack. Very light and a great handle.
thats what i figured. fwiw i may just get a carry bag for it and gig with it au naturale. Our singer put a drink on my amp once. ONCE. They say he'll never fully recover, so I'm not concerned with spillages and whatnot
I'd ditch the rack and use a tuner pedal. For the smaller gigs you can either pull the tuner off your board and just take it, or get a 2nd tuner to use specifically when you don't want to lug the whole board.
I currently have a 6 space AVS flight/road case and all I have in it is my Peavey amp which takes up two spaces. I use a tuning pedal. Road cases are great I think and the only reason I bought this big of one is because I got it for $10. Plus I would be ready if I ever want to put more stuff in it. It's up to you though.
What they already said. I have found that rack tuners and conditioners are just 'rack fillers'- you buy them because you 'gotta put something there.'
I've gone 100% rackless myself and use rack bags instead, with just enough room for the head(if cooling concerns will allow it) or with one extra space if needed.

My Fender P bass rarely goes out of tune - so I just use clip-on tuner, then pull it off and play. I recheck my tuning before every set/show etc but it's usually still in tune so the little clip-on tuners works perfect for me.

I have a 1001RBII and I don't keep it in a rack. I transport it in a padded bag and then take it out and set it on top of the cabinet. I use a Zoom B2 as my tuner.

I'll stick with my Furman, since power outages here and resulting power zaps when it comes back on happen all the time - as they did where I used to live too, now that I think about it. Besides, the tube lights look cool. And all the receptacles. And the power jewel/rocker switch.
Tuner-wise, the Korg 'Cylon Eye' works better and is more accurate that my Marley floor unit, so it stays since I can see it from greater distances instead of having to hover over it and look down.
Then there's my wireless unit - it stays in the rack.
Next I'll get a nice rack compressor, even though my current LMB-3 is good, I can do better.
If MXR made an M-80, rack style - I'd be on it instantly.
I'd MAYBE go 'bag-style' for a soft case rack in the future, but right now this hard rack is just fine. Besides, I can stuff a lot of cables and my mics inside it.
And I like the Starship Enterprise look to it all.
I can't - and won't - dance while I play bass, so I might as well wow people with the visuals and just stand still and play. At least I look cool.

IMO - ditch the whole shebang, get an MB500 and Korg PB or PB + if you cable two basses. If you want more grind than an MB500 provides, add something like the ParaDriver ... Carry the entire thing in the pocket of a decent gig bag...

I'm using a 6 Space SKB rack filled with a power conditioner, rack tuner, Mesa M-Pulse 360 and 2 empty spaces. I like that it's easy enough for me to set my gear up when I get to the jam space, take my covers off, speaker cable in, plug into the wall and I'm good to go.
I would however like to downsize to a 4U case just because I don't see me filling the extra slots with anything except maybe a drawer that I don't really need.

No way. I'm in love with my 700 head. Just not so much with the rack I transport it in. Thanks for all the input guys! I'm gonna have to do some re-arranging on my board and acquire myself a boss tu-2. As for carrying the head, I have a bag, mor eor less. The 2-space rack that "came with it" is a rack/bag type deal (I forget the name), so that'll work just fine for me. Now I just need to find myself a tuner pedal.

I've got a Pitchblack for when I just take a tuner, and a Strobostomp mounted on my board when I take every thing. No complaints from either one. I might try a Polytune Mini just because it's tiny.
